Why wouldn't WoW players be computer gamers? It's not like it doesn't take skill.GiveMeIce
but it doesnt, it just takes time and dedication. when you die, you can still keep your stuff, dying is just an annoyance.
They are playing a game on a gaming system... how are they not gamers?foxhound_fox
My thoughts exactly.
A gamer is someone who plays games, WoW is a game -- therefore they are gamers.
You could even say that some of them are hardcore gamers, putting in long hours into one game.
And you need a high end computer to be a computer gamer? If that was the case, then you would need a Limo to be a taxi driver? Either way, WoW players are gamers and always will be. MMOs don't eject you from gaming and WoW is a computer game. Just because some people lose their lives to it or spend hours grinding away at levels, doesn't mean they lose the right to be a gamer. I mean hell, my friend plays the Sims 2, Need for Speed Underground, and Fifa and doesn't even know about Starcraft, Half-Life, or any of the other major games but I still consider him a gamer but with limited taste.
Heh, I know also two people who have a 486s in their basements, loaded with DOS games just to relive the classics. They are computer gamers just by doing that, no matter how retro it is. Now get over yourself and don't start disowning millions of people for enjoying a game.....especially when that is the whole reason of gaming, enjoyment.

Lol. You can say the same thing about CS, quake and CoD4.....would you say those games take no skill? WoW takes plenty of skill, just not the same amount of twitch skill that other faster games require.....but step into any arena and you'll see it definitly requires fast reflexes and knowledge
Haha that Taxi remark was classic. Out here in New York Taxi drivers consist of any cars alongs there's a backseat :)And you need a high end computer to be a computer gamer? When i think of WOW players i think of them as NextGeneration Dungeons and Dragons players
'rolling dice drawing on paper and would sit in a basement playing it on weekends'
Do i class them asPC gamers? Well yeah i do because any one playing a pc game is a gamer ,but there is different class's of gamer, From casual gamer all the way up to Pro gamers that play for large amounts of money.

Dying is an annoyance on fps games, and you don't particularly "lose" anything. WoW isn't all about just sitting brainlessly and running instances. PvP takes a good bit of skill.
imo i think they really arent. i geuss its because most of them are just playing hours on end- probably with casual, not-high end computers, with proabably not much knowledge of video games in general.o yea, and its beacuse they make us look bad.agrees? (i play wow btw)Blue_Panda
LOL spellcheck, that is unless English isn't your first language, if that's the case then i'm sorry :P
To answer your question,Yes, I actually think quite a few of them are genuine PC gamers. In general chat I overhear players talking about various PC games such as Counterstrike and Unreal Tournament; games that fit in the "PC gamer" mould, furthermore there are also those who talk about PC specs and computer building.
However I would imagine that the real breed of PC gamers can be found in other MMOs such as Anarchy online, EVE online, Dark age of Camelot and even Everquest II.

You sir, are an ass.
It's funny... I have D E D I C A T E D "PC Gamer" friends that honestly think that if you're not playing the latest Multi-FPS and/or Multi-RTS, you're NOT a "gamer".
I think there's a difference between: Being a Gamer, and Playing a Game.
My mother plays solitaire on her computer sometimes. Does that make her a gamer? She also partakes in some online Poker. Does that make her a gamer? In the ever-increasingly growing egotistical eyes of kids NOW days, no... She's not. She's just an old lady that presses a button now and then. She has no "M@D Sk!LLZ y0"
That said, I'd say someone that exclusively plays WoW IS a gamer: A WoW Gamer. Now whether WoW takes "M@D Sk!LLZ y0" is debatable, even laughable; but it is a game, and anytime you put time and or dedication into a game - It makes you a "gamer" of that particular game; however not necessarily for the platform.
If you were to ONLY play a certain game on the PS3 or the XBox - Would that make you a "gamer" of that particular console. Could I say that because I spend 3 hours a day playing Halo 3 (I don't btw...), I'm an XBox Gamer? If I say that I spend 3 hours a day playing (insert PS3 title here, because do they really have anything indigenous to Playstation anymore other than Final Fantasy?), does that make me a PS3 Gamer?
This is a question driven by ego. It doesn't take a High-End PC to be a Gamer. It doesn't take "M@D Sk!LLz y0" to be a Gamer. It takes a general knowledge to technical knowledge of your platform AND its available games etc. to be a true Gamer.
For that, you need age and experience - NOT ego...

(i play wow btw)Blue_PandaThey play a game on the computer. They are computer gamers. It's not up to you to look into your soul and decide whether someone fits the bill. You might think they represent a "lesser" faction of computer gaming, but they are computer gamers none the less.

i see what you mean, basically they're PC gamers because they're playing WoW on PC - basically....lol
but yeah i have to agree with you
[QUOTE="Cdscottie"][QUOTE="aajohnny"]no,they are just geeks lolaajohnny
And you don't consider yourself a geek for owning a gaming PC and a PS3? :P
and I didn't buy themYou do still own them correct? That's like saying someone who watches every episode of Star Trek on television but doesn't own the seasons on DVD isn't a geek as well. Get over it and accept your title.

ok?I don't really understand your point TC. Sure there are people who have only played WoW, but I doubt it's the majority. Many come from other mmo's, and a long past of gaming. (Me for one, and everyone in my guild)
But I must say blizzard sure is milking it.
I consider WoW players MMORPGers which are on a completely different level. PC gamers generally play games for the duration of the game, discarding the game after it has been beaten and a new version comes out. There are some marked exceptions, COD, Star Craft, and Counterstrike standing out most clearly in my mind. But MMORPGers are on a completely different level in terms of dedication to video gaming and making it an integral part of their lives.
I'm not advocating this type of gaming just making the observation that there is a distinct difference.
