I thought fallout was pretty boring. I liked oblivion a little more, but they both seemed pretty soulless to me. They were cool in that they were open world though.

[QUOTE="Alienware_fan"]I felt the game was ok, but the COMBAT was boring....that was what put me off... That was the last straw for me in Oblivion. Stiff animations. It's kinda sad because I would have liked to play the game more. I draw the line at some point though.I haven't played the fallout and oblivion, I like rpg's should I try those games? I think if they made a better engine for the first person Fallout games they would have been better games. It would be nice if they would build a new Fallout with a new engine for the PC, then do what they want for the consoles later. I really didn't like the Oblivion engine.

i liked oblivion better than fallout 3 and nv...but they were pretty bland to me...but there is alot to do in any of the games...i am definitely looking forward to skyrim tho
Fallout 3 was fun at times and boring at times..How can i say both..Well when there was action it was fun.If you had to walk to areas..Some times it was bland and not interesting at all..
Oblivion had its moments i hated most of it..Loved morrowind an what they did to oblivion was a shame..Its just how i feel no need to flame me..The tier system sucked..Im enjoying divine divinity 2 more...
I loved Fallout 3, beautiful piece of game design IMHO. Oblivion was OK, worth a look. The beauty of both games is that there are a thousand other things to do in the game if you find yourself bored with what you are currently doing. I rarely got bored with either game, at least on my first playthrough.

The Gamebryo engine really does burden the games as well as the consolized UI and controls. It is a good thing that for Skyrim they are getting a new engine.
Not at all. I haven't played Fallout, but Oblivion provided me with about 120 hours of fun. Then again, one of the things I like doing most in both games and real life is exploring large rural areas, and that is pretty much what Oblivion consists of. It sure as hell wasn't a perfect game, and it mightn't have been a good RPG, but as a sandbox action/adventure game, I can think of few games that impressed me more.
Vanilla Oblivion can become boring, but once I started using OBMM, Wrye Bash, OBSE, plus installed ~ 70 mods, the game transformed.:D
First of all you need to center your definition of an RPG. If the RPG's you have played in the past would include titles like "Neverwinter Nights 2" or "Dragon Age", then I can guarantee you'll have a very different experience in Oblivion/Fallout. They're not really in the same category in many ways.
I did not find them boring per se. Fallout became pretty repetitive after awhile, and the weapon selection (At least in FO3) bored the hell out of me because it was so scanty.
Oblivion was pretty immersive IMO, however some of the mechanics of it made it stupid after awhile (I'm mainly referring to the horribad idea of monster level-scaling that made character progression pointless).
Fallout: New Vegas was pretty alright for one playthrough, but it is even more bug-riddled and performance addled than the other two, which is a real shame because its a lot better than FO3 in virtually every other way.
Boring? I'd say that's the least of these games' issues.
fall out newvegas i've tried but half the time i didn't like it because of the glitches. Like the v.a.t.s. glitch.Oblivion a bit, Fallout 3/New Vegas, no.

Oblivion with no mods I find a little boring, but with mods it's far from it. I never found FO3 or NV boring even unmodded, perhaps I just prefer apocalyptic sci-fi over traditional fantasy...just found exploring the wastes alien (new) to me and therefore it felt more adventorous as opposed to woods, caves and mountains.
I liked them both, after heavily modding them. I just finished the Nehrim mod for Oblivion, and that was pretty fun...the dungeons in Oblivion were tedious. Nehrim made every dungeon fun to explore.
[QUOTE="topsemag55"]This. If you dont plan on modding a Bethesda game, might as well not play. That depends - there are those who enjoy the game without mods, as they either have no desire to learn how to use mods, or they are leery of the operation of a modded game.
It is easy to mess up the game if the Load Order of your mods is wrong.

There's more to it than just that too. Even with Wyre's leveled patches and assistance from the BOSS Load Order program - you'll get lots of bugs, slowdowns, and random problems that wouldn't be there if the game was unmodded. When you have so many mods changing information within the game, you're likely to run into problems even with a proper load order. Takes forever too. You have to read dozens and dozens of Read-Me files thoroughly to see if the mods are compatible and such. It can be easily considered a hassle, considering that a good game should be fun out of the box. Please Log In to post.
