I'm wondering how people find time to play and hopefully finish their games.

I'm into RPGs now and I have a hard time finishing them... I still have Planescape Torment which I tried many time to make some advance. I also started Baldur's Gate 2 which I just have a few hours into it. I'm also playing Mass Effect and Fallout 3 which although seem shorter I still have quite a few hours to finish.

I also like games like Civilization IV or Sim City 4, but I rarely make much advance in the because of the time it takes to learn strategies and the time to get into them.

I also had great times playing old Lucasarts classics like Monkey Island, Sam and Max and Day of the Tentacle.

Sometimes I feel burnt out for the lack of advance in my playing and I go to more casual games frustated to have some playing without much pressure. Peggle is fun and good for a quick casual gaming.

Maybe I'm getting some attention disorder and can't stand the long playing hours and want instant gratification. Console ports may have spoiled me! Or maybe it is day-to-day activities and responsibilities which don't allow me to focus too much time on games.

Have you finished those games? How much time do you invest in playing? How do you juggle gaming with other activities? Do you have assigned hours to play or do you play at any hour? Do you recommend some way to make my playing hours more "productive" and be able to finish more games? What is your experience on this?

well, i usually do have 4 or 5 games on the go, but never all rpgs! no wonder you dont have time.

i usually dip in and out, and then just go on a binge of one of them, and finish that one.

it is hard to juggle gaming and stuff, i totally feel your pain. limit the amount of games you buy is my suggestion, it works for me, i used to have the same problem as you.

i try not to play more than 2 hours a day, but no, i dont have an assigned gaming time.

its easy to get the impression that everyone here manages to play all the new games, but they dont!

I find time to finish my games but it seems like an impossible thing to do. I have about 120 unbeaten games right now and I continue to buy new games when I can. I don't think I will ever catch up.

I have a "to-play" pile of two games currently, Gothic II and Beyond Good and Evil while my Playing list is Baldurs Gate II and Fallout 2 which I do find the time to play both as I am sure time will be found to play G2 and BGE.

Yes, maybe it was a bad idea to try to play all RPGs at the same time! I'm going to concentrate just on Fallout 3 now and I'll have to leave Planescape and Baldur's Gate 2 which seem epically long to later in the future. And then in the future I will have to find time to play Fallout Vegas, Dragon Age and Alpha Protocol! Those damn developers! Making so many great games! lol But really, I used to get the feeling that most people here played 15 hours a day, so now I don't feel so bad for playing "just" two or three hours. I also must find time for my girlfriend, TV, movies, music, friends, etc. Thanlfully my girlfriend shares my interests so we can play together and then everyone is happy.

I have tons of unbeaten games lying around from this generation. I stopped buying games months ago - I am now going back to the games I already own. I literally have hundreds of gaming hours lying around in my current library so there is no reason to buy any new games. I am an RPG lover as well but for some reason this gen I have barely finished any of them. I don't think I have it in me to play through 60+ hour games any more. I also have little patience for getting stuck at certain points in games for hours - it just feels like a waste of time. Sadly, the games I've finished this gen have mostly been FPSs. Last gen it was definitely RPGs.

I end up not finishing my games more often than doing so. Sometimes I just get bored halfway through, sometimes I buy another game that takes my interest off from the first, but mostly because I prefer MP games. Most of my time gaming I'm playing some online match for some online game... so there's not much time left to finish off the singe person portions of the games.

Right now I have 24 games installed, 15 of which I haven't finished yet. I always find myself playing games, and sometimes it's just the need for something familiar that draws me away from playing a yet-unfinished game. It does take me some time to finish games since I'm in the army and all that stuff.

I try to finish everything, even a game i dont really enjoy because i believe i owe the game developer that much. there are some instances where I don't finish but this is for very bad games like alone in the dark.

Wish I could say I do but I don't. A mix of work taking a larger role and the fact there are other things I'd rather do nowadays, like pick up the guitar or go do some photography. Don't get me wrong, I love a good romp on Empire or would quite happily loose myself for a month in Oblivion if I could spare the time, but its just not top of my priorities list right now. Sometimes I wonder if it ever will be again... *stares into the future*

Wow you sound so much like me, not only in game choice, but in terms of finiishing them!

I have worked out something

I'm not buying more games for another 6 months, so anytime I decideto play, I play my old ones and try to finish them.

In 6 months time, i'll probably get 3 or 4 and do it all over again

I play about 1 hour a day, so I try not to get into RPGs a lot, although I was playing Diablo 2 until recently. The best way for me to relax is to play a good action game, or a racing game.

I hate to admit it, but I rarely finish any games that I play. The last game that I can remember finishing was COD4 and before that Splinter Cell 1 way back on PS2. I buy too many games and never finish them all the way through. Then an online game comes by and I don't make any progress in my single player games. One of these days I will go back and attempt to finish some.

Yes, I should do something similar. Stick to a few games and only after finishing them moving to newer ones. Sometimes I'm afraid that if I let time go by good games will get so dated that I won't find much pleasure in playing them, but that's not always true. I started to play Baldur's Gate 2 only a few weeks ago and I'm not put off by its dated looks. I makes me remember that 2d graphics were real cool instead! I'm already in love with it and I hope Dragon Age comes at least near it in terms of quality.

Yep that's how you gotta do it. I only play a few games at a time, usually some kind of multiplayer (FPS or RTS), a RPG/decent Single Player game, and then occasionally a MMO.

That's what I started doing. Last year I had relized that I hadn't actually beat a game in several years so I adopted this policy and I have beaten 42 games since last March.

If I start a game, I finish it, unless its very frustrating for whatever reasons. I could not finish Manhunt on PC because the game at one point required me to get a certain kind of kill, on 3 enemies, and one error means its game over, and you cannot save in between. I got frustrated and let it go.

Sounds just like console trash. Real PC games have a quick save feature.

I usually play action-skewed games (Such as Mass Effect) during weekdays and the traditional RPGs during weekends. You should try doing that because the RPGs are really hard to put down when you get sucked in and you need sleep during weekdays :D

When I was still in college I actually drew up a game schedule, with a specific game per day so I could plow through all those great games of 2004-2005.

It was a decent game until that point. That part was pure console trash.

Finished all my Battlefield Games and F.E.A.R. Couldn't finish Extraction Point though, had to reinstall my OS right when I was nearly done with the game, same thing with Bioshock so I'll probably never learn how that ends. Warcraft....too much time wasted. Oblivion, heck no, but still a fun game. Unreal Tournament 3, had high hopes but just wasn't what I expected it to be so I never really played it. All Half Life games, meh, didn't hook me at all. Got bored of 2 really fast. Oh, used to play CS:S alot too. But I got tired of dealing with hackers, started assuming 99% of the players were them. When I went back like a year later, server I played on was clean, family friendly too.

So I get to play about half the games I buy/have. Other half of the time its WoW! :P That, or hitting up some old N64 games *Yes I own every one I have on my computer* with my friends using PS3 controllers. Makes the games soooo much better. Goldeneye is still the awesomeness.

I'm a completionist. I do like to play through most of the games I get, and I like to explore every nook and cranny. I don't have as much time as I used to with work and all. Now, I'll have one day a week to play for an extended amount of time, and the rest of the week I'll play a match of TF2 a day or so and thats it.

I do try to play as efficiently as possible. I find myself reading FAQs on games before I even buy them. Gone are the days where I can have 99:99 playtime on Final Fantasy 3 for SNES, or playing Fallouts and taking every path possible. I still love my games, though, and I hope my kids do too.

I'm struggling to with work hours. Sometimes I don't really feel like playing after I come home. I also watch TV shows, some movies. I watch some sport, play some sport. I get most of my gaming done on weekends. but 10 hour single player games often take me a few weeks, compared to a few days when I was a university. I'd like more time, i never feel I get enough on weekends either sadly, even now I have a few games I'm playing through that I will probably break up and finish over a few weeks, I do play a fair bit of mp (l4d) so that cuts into my sp hours but not regrettably so. Even still I play a lot of action games which are lower hours. I've also become a bit harsher on games, if the game doesn't keep holding my interest then I'm not going to waste my time finishing it, unlike what I used to do. I don't have set hours, I generally play later at night, but not right before bed unless it's weekends.

I have a queue of games. A list of 3 games that I play one by one. Once I finish the first on the list, I add one more at the bottom and so on. I also play random multiplayer games like Civ IV or DoW multiplayer since one game all the time might not be always fun. Also you might want to get a console. There are plenty of good games for PS2 or gamecube and you can relax on a comfy chair or bed and play for fun without being on the computer desk all the time. PC gaming is better, but consoles are a welcome change and the variety will keep pc games interesting for you.

Spoken like someone that knows everything and really knows nothing. First you admit tonot having many games but plenty of time to play them, then you don't see how thats hard for people that have lots of games and little free time. Yup sounds like an expert to me.

You either have very few games, or very little life. I average 2-3 hours a night on a 42 hour work week and that's probably more than most with jobs and friends let alone kids.

I used to do that. Had 4 or 5 games all at once to play. Never works out that well in the end for me. If I had that much to play I would have actually beat maybe 1 or 2 of those games and would have left the rest incomplete until I decide to revisit them several months later. Sometimes i never revist them at all.
