If you can't play CoD4 at max graphics that should tell you it isn't the best, it's not as if 'high' is there just for the sake of it. Your pc is ok, but not brilliant.

1st thing I'd do is buy a better video card, then more RAM, then a real sound card, then a new processor. If you upgrade all of those you'll be happy. Seriously what did you expect your computer is old?

Why are you telling the guy to spend that much money?

All you really need is a new graphics card. For example an HD4850.

Your processor and ram will suffice for now.

Because he asked if the machine was a great PC. Without upgrading all of the parts it will never be a "great" PC. I agree 100% with you about upgrading the video card, hence I put it as the first step to making the machine great.

I suggest you get an Hd 4870, look it up on newegg.com. Then you need to get a good cpu cooler, like the Arctic cooling freezer 7, and overclock your processor. Overclocking is free if you have a motherboard that has a good bios. Thats it pretty much man, I can max out cod 4 on my core 2 duo 3.0, and 8800gt. Runs great at 1680*1050.

Your CPU itself is decent, but you really should overclock if you can; I'm guessing it's a Dell or something, so it probably can't be done.

But you can upgrade your GPU, which is weak: 4850 or 4870 is your best bet.

When you say "good games", I assume you're talking about the latest and greatest like Fallout3 FC2 and the likes. Get the HD4850 which is currently a good deal and OC your PC if you know how to do it. If it's a Dell like someone suggested then you may want to consider getting a new one if that's what you really want.
