I purchased a used copy of Crysis Warhead as well as a brand new copy of Warhammer Online and I was refreshingly surprised to see the new PC game case size. After years of having the the bulky PC game case, I've always wondered why they were so big? Why not keep it the same size as the Xbox or Playstation cases. Besides, you can save a lot of plastic! Anyways, are you guys liking the slimmer and sexier PC game case? If not, state your reason.

I like the old cases better, it game more potential for the developer to put some nice incentives in, now they have an excuse not to...they just say "It doesn't fit in the new slim case"

PC boxes have been that size in UK since 2001. No idea why USA is so behind the times.

Something to do with America's obsession with size, perhaps? You guys do love things big.

Personally, I love the slimmer boxes.

Well I'm from Europe and "slim" cases are normal here and yeah I like them I have Grid from US and Double Agent and I really can't understand, not in a million years why the case is 2.1 times bigger than the "slim" case, why does it have to be around 3 cm thick just for a disc that only needs a place to be fixed in, not a "pole" on which it could start dancing and shaking + it's protected a whole lot more in a slim case with it's system.

Do you understand that Elann is talking about the old American boxes, which are basically DVD boxes only twice as thick? He isn't talking about the old cardboard box/jewel case combo we used to have.

Heh, at first I misunderstood the topic title and thought you were talking about the DVD-ROM drive that came with the Crysis PC or something, and I was like "Whaaa?" Then I read your post and thought you were talking about the tower, and I thought "Wait a minute, Elann's on the hardware forums all the time, how does he not know about micro ATX?"

Anyway, Warhead isn't the first. Myst IV was in a slim case in the US, as was the Thief 1 & 2 compilation. And so was Riddick. I mean Escape from Butcher Bay. I mean Ehfuhbuhbuh. Ahem... So I don't know that I would say this means it's "the new standard," to use thin cases here and would actually bank on most games continuing to be in the thick cases.

But I do like the thin cases more, and would prefer that all games would use them instead. Actually, that's not true. I'd prefer that all games went back to jewel cases. Less sturdy, but very easy to store. But the thin DVD cases are the next best thing.

They look nice, but for games that have giant manuals ie. 4X games they might be limited by the size. Anyways less plastic doesn't bother me, I just want BETTER GAMES :);)

Lol, sorry about that. I edited it to PC "game" case now. XD

I did not know about the US having slim cases before. I guess it's because I wasn't PC gaming during that time but it's great that they have reverted back to the slim cases again. And I hope it's here to stay. I think they're neat and it saves space and plastic. :D And they're also light on the eyes.

I've hated the old bulky cases, I am a born fan of jewl cases with cardboard boxes, and the smaller cases come as a pleasant suprise. Not to mention how much plastic can be saved! /Goes Green!

My EFBB case is cardboard, must have been re-packaged at some point.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the typical US case sizes finally taking a diet :D I was sort of getting used to picking up UK versions of some games though which, including shipping even, were at suprisingly good prices...but of course I didn't bother to get the UK versions for all games, only when easy and feasible enough.

STALKER Clear Sky arrived in a regular DVD size case as well which was nice, although the case text (manual also) is provided in both English and French, off hand can't recall seeing that before for a US version case.

You know I didn't even give the cases a second thought until you mentioned it.

I like the change. The games can now share shelf space with the DVDs and Xbox games and not stand out. I wouldn't mind the limited editions coming in the "older" cases, though. At least they are the same height and length as other DVD cases.

I loved the BIG boxes we used to have... They looked so cool, amazing box art and had tons of stuff in them  They gave the games more personality imo, and gave me a reason to actually buy the game not download it. We've had these stupid DVD cases in Europe since 2001 and I *hate* them (curse you ps2!) Bring the big boxes back dammit!

The old cases felt more like I was buying a PC game. It set it apart.

I don't mind the new cases at all, it's just it feels like I'm not buying a PC game anymore.

I loved the big cardboard boxes with lots of great artwork and all the extra promo material that came inside.....they made for a nicer display of my game collection.....sadly, those days are all but gone.....Your lucky to get a jewel case nowadays and we are headed for more and more DLC from developers and publishers.

You know, when I received Crysis Warhead(used copy) in the mail, I thought the seller transfered it to a PS2 game case. I was like what?! Even if he did managed to do that, he would have to cut the box art to fit the smaller PS2 dvd case. After looking it over again, I was like "Oh..."

I don't like the double sized dvd cases, 9/10 times they come with a dvd and a slim manual. Leaving me to ponder why they bother with a 2 wide thick piece of stupidity that doesn't fit with other dvd cases.

I like my cardboard boxes - you know the ones with raised lettering, and the ones that have shiny stuff over the screenshots on the back and inside the box. Even the ones with velco keeping the front flap shut. Now they are boxes. You just haven't lived if you haven't got those boxes!

Ordinary dvd cases are "ok" I'll have to live with em.

I like Steelbook, basically they have raised lettering, and it feels quite esolid. The color range is a bit weak, but most of the time they do pretty well with the limited number of colors they can put on the case. And I know those suckers will last. In general though you pay extra for those.

I guess CE/LEs are the last bastion of the big cases/manuals and content. but sometimes for $10 more I'll just have to line the publishers pockets. *shakes fist* how dare they put the goodies in those packages *shakes fist*

Edit: the word bastion rolls off the tongue, try it, I know you'll like to say it.

Personally, I hated the old jewel cases. I would sometimes put them on the ground to make room on my desk for something else, and I would always end up stepping on them. Or they would always end up breaking some way or another.

I like these new ones, I think that developers can offer us alot in the slim case. However, its funny that people commonly think bigger means more. The old ea sports games came in big boxes but the inside never had substance.
