I don't care if you like them, or if you use them, or if you think the keyboard and mouse is better and blah blah blah.

Do you own a PC-compatible control pad?

No, and I never will have one. If a game on the PC requires something beside the mouse and keyboard to be played on an enjoyable level for me, then screw that game. Yeah, you'd better believe that's harsh.

Yeah I'm getting the xbox 360 pc gamepad for when DMC4 comes out. I played the demo on keyboard and it's just impossible and I really want to play DMC4 so looks like together DMC4 is gonna cost me about $120. Oh well I guess, hopefully the gamepad will serve purpose in the future other than for DMC4.

I plan on getting one within the next couple of weeks. I'm currently playing Grid, and while I can win races easily enough with the keyboard, I just feel that a controller would be easier. There are also a couple future titles that I plan on playing with the controller. My only problem is just trying to find a good one, probably go with the 360 controller, except that it looks kind of bulky.

Wow, that really is harsh. I'm sure you won't see it this way, but I really think you're missing out. There aren't many games that require a pad, but some that do are absolutely excellent (like Sands of Time).

I use my 360 Controller (wireless) with a lot of games. It's extremely useful. It can almost make games that are running at 20 FPS seem like 50-60. I can play Crysis with 8x AA at High/Very High with my 360 controller. Also, I have my Sega Saturn controller for SF 3rd Strike emulated netplay.

I've had a game pad for the PC since the late 80's and I've used joysticks with them since the lates 70's (pre x86 of course ^_^). There are simply way to many games on the PC that can do better with a pad or joystick than with a mouse and keyboard. The pad is also a good option if you dont want a wheel and enjoy racing games. Of course, for many genre's a pad or joystick should never be used on a PC. But they serve their purpose and I love 'em.

I own too, but the only one that uses them is my brother.

I never play with a gamepad, no matter what people say about "tis is betta on a gamepad cuz its a consolo port lol" I just can't play games with them, witht the mighty exception of PES2008.

That's what I'm talking about, when I first bought Sands of Time, I started playing with my gamepad, minutes later, I couldn't support the looseness of a pad, threw it out of the window and grabbed my KB/M.

I own a Saitek pad. It's very nice. It also collects lots of dust since I only use it for sports games and platformers both of which are rare.

No, and I'll never get one.

The reason I don't play console titles is because I hate the gamepad controllers.

Don't thank me..thank the xbox360 forum.

To Fatshodan: Did you find it necessary to play POP with a game pad? I found the keyboard to be alright myself.

I own two wireless 360 controllers..mainly because I own a 360..

However, I also have a wireless receiver for the controllers, and I use my 360 controllers on my PC semi-regularly, for racing & fighting games. I'd never use them for any other genre. Even with games like Assassin's Creed, I much prefer KB/M.

I do have a game pad....but by today's standards it would be very old and probably wouldn't provide much benefit to any games out today.

The best use I ever got out of this gamepad was with Doom and Doom 2. It works well with emulators, but I haven't played those in years.....

I've got a Gravis Gamepad....this sucker has to be a good 10 years old now. It still works....well, still worked last time I used it a few years back with Doom 2.

Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2, Logitech Chillstream and Thrustmaster Wireless Dual Trigger 2 in 1 for me :). I love the Rumblepad 2 and I use from time to time the Thrustmaster one but the Chillstream one is for DMC 4, I haven't used it more than once but it isn't that good imo the only good thing is that it prevents your hands from sweating.

I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong or anything, if a PC-experience has to include a kb + mouse, I won't argue about that. I just think it's weird that when I play PoP on my PC, (use my PC hardware to render the game, watch the game on my PC-monitor and use my PC-speakers to hear what's going on) it's suddenly not a PC-experience (to you) just because I prefer a gamepad in that particular game. I guess we all have different definitions of what PC-gaming actually is.

That's just it ;) When some people think of PC gaming, they only think of flash games in a web browser for example. Although they really should be educated about what PC gaming can be about IMO :P the "PC gaming experience" or gaming on the PC definitely means different things to different people for different reasons.

Yes, I have a gamepad for my PC, many of them actually. I think I still have my old Gravis gamepad, Gravis Gamepad Pro, Gravis Xterminator (a real beast back in the day), Logitech Wingman Rumble, Playstation 1, Playstation 2 controllers etc.

These days I have 2 360 controllers that keep for use on my PCs (I don't have a 360). Although by far and away, most of my gaming is done with the venerable, but awesome, kb+m, I use gamepads for certain games/genres.

Considering that all games to PC are better played with keyboard + mouse than with a gamepad, I see no reason to get one. In all my years of gaming, I have only found fighting games to be played better with a gamepad (but they can still be enjoyed using a keyboard)

Yeah, we do. Look, I definitely like it being on my monitor (which I prefer to the 50-something-inch, widescreen, LCD, HDTV we have for games by far), and I like it being on my 5.1 speakers, and I like it being on my custom built rig. I like that I'm at my desk, much preferable to my bed or a couch or the floor, where I game on my consoles. I like that I can quit the game and use this same machine to access all my non-gaming apps.

But the biggest part of the experience while in a game without a doubt is the control method, where it has at least twice as much weight as all those other factors combined. Playing a game with the controller would amount to the exact same gameplay as if I were playing it on the console. Sure, it might look a little different and sound a little different, but you're playing and controlling it the exact same way you would on the console, going through the gameplay in the same way, so it really isn't a different experience from what it is on the consoles at all. It basically is still a console game and a console experience with minor differences not influential to the gameplay.

With that mindset, you are essentially locking yourself out of titles that were designed around a gamepad. Titles like Prince of Persia, Devil May Cry, and Gears of War. Even though keyboard and mouse work in most situations, some games, especially platformers, are far more enjoyable (and immersive) with a gamepad. In addition, it helps when you play on the big screen : you can lean back on the couch and keep the controller snugly fit in between your hands.
