The last games I've played were stealth games (Mark of the Ninja and Splinter Cell Conviction), so I decided to play Deus Ex HR since I bought the game a long time ago but didn't manage to play it since then. Before launching the game I decided to search for gameplay videos that showcased the stealth component of the game. The videos were good enough to motivate me to play the game using their style... shortly after I found myself not enjoying the game, maybe because I had no knowledge about the game levels/perks but I had to stop and leave the game for a while.

Today I decided to play it again using my own style/approach and I found it to be way more enjoyable. I ask this because I've seen several times people replicating a youtube video or some sort of weird glitch that someone else's did before (happens with new or old games).

And to answer my own question I usually play games using my own approach/slyle (unless I'm stuck for a while :P)

Just curious.

When I see gameplay of the game first showing a scenario it's very hard for me to NOT replicate that when I get the game myself.

Having said that I usually just play as it happens. I don't really think about it

That's pretty much me as well. Hell, I've gone through good portions of the game not knowing about certain mechanics/tricks (ie like pause mid battle in some RPGS) because I didn't bother reading the manual or ignored training/hints... so yea, my style isn't exactly the most efficient. If I'm stuck though, I eventually would watch or read walkthroughs.

I find it a disservice to the developers and the game if I went about playing it like others. I prefer to play it my way.

Same here, except I turn green an terrorise a small village when I get stuck.

I only switch to someone else's style if what I'm doing isn't working.

When it comes to games that allow you to be stealthy or go beserk, I go "NOPE! It's Beserking time!"

Will never understand why people imitate others when you can just as easily play how you WANT to play.

Try beating SC2:WoL's campaign on brutal "playing how you want to play".

I'll play my own way, but I'll min/max what I like so I'll get the best results for my chosen playstyle. Old habits from D&D die hard :/.

I refuse to watch videos how to play games (ruins the fun of learning them), so my own style.

I don't see the fun in trying to imitate how someone else plays a game, unless its strategies for an Online game. Any single player games I think it would be stupid to play it any other way than yours.

Why should I play like someone else? Where's the fun in that? Where's MY game then at all?
