There are so many other good mainstream games to play that I usually don't get around to 1) identifying the good indie games and 2) actually playing them. Most have demos, at least, so you'd think I'd at least manage to play some demos to find out if they're good. I finally got around to playing the demo for Machinarium this weekend, which seemed pretty good, but I wasn't energized or excited by it.

Anyone here a big indie follower?

I wouldn't say I'm a huge indie follower, but I do keep tabs on these games and play them if they are good enough.

I tend to find indie games much more appealing than big-budget mainstream titles, but I wouldn't say that I play a ton of them. Aquaria, Machinarium, Duo, Braid and World of Goo are some of my favourites, if that's what you're asking.

I play some of them but I'm not a groupie or anything. Game Tunnel is a good place to find out about indie games.

Quite a few actually, they're not as daunting or demanding to play as some of the big games I own, I find it as a breath of fresh air if I become somewhat burnt out with gaming,

I inform myself quite well about indie games, but I only play the very best of them.

I was just curious how many people actually follow and play them. There are so many indie developers that I was wondering if people mostly just threw their hands up in frustration like me and only played the really good ones or if people actually tried some of the ones that sounded pretty good but had very little info/criticism available. I checked out GameTunnel the other day and was disappointed by the quality of the reviews. They didn't tell me very much, and while I thought they were better than the average player review, they didn't have nearly as much detail as some of the good player reviews or professional reviews. For games that I'm skeptical about, GT doesn't tell me enough to make me want to learn more and play them.

I loved playing World of Goo and Braid.

Those two are the best downloadable games on the market in my opinion.

I have enjoined a number of them. When I was younger it was all I played on the PC past Wing Commander and some point and clicks. Now though I don't keep up with them like I should. Kinda sad now that I think about it.

Last one I played was World of Goo.

If an indie game starts getting great reviews sure I'll try it out.

Some indie games are awesome.

Right now I'm playing World of Goo and loving it, and I think Braid is arguably a better game then some mainstream titles such as Farcry 2 or Mass Effect.

I play... some. I like the whole idea behind indie games, so I'm always curious when something new comes out. That's the reason I check RPS every once in a while.. they keep a good tab on indie games, it seems. My favourites so far have been Uplink and Zeno Clash.

I'm much busier now than I was a couple of years ago, so have less time for trying out indie games and demos. Some can be really good, though with less overall time for gaming I find myself tending to stick with mainstream games and getting stuck into them, rather than trying lots of smaller new games.

RPS is great, thanks for the tip!

EDIT: Also, I looked into the 2 games that you mentioned, and they both look AMAZING! I would have never pegged Zeno Clash as an indie game, but I guess that's what happens when you invest in artists X)

I enjoy a fair few Indie developed games. World of Goo, DEFCON, Audiosurf, Darwinia, iFluid. In fact, I probably rate Introversion Software as my favourite studio. I think Steam has been quite beneficial in making Indie games better known.

I agree with you there. Back in my day we would have to buy shareware at a computer con or maybe download from a BBS which was rare because of the speed. And no I am not that old

I've played Braid and Plants vs Zombies. I woulda done the World for Goo for 1 cent deal but I dunno, indie games aren't really my think usually.

lol. Or you could walk outside and take an actual break from gaming.
