I personally do not prefer that friendly fire be activated. I don't think it's fair in situations where the friendly fire is unavoidable. For example, in a BF:BC 2 match I was in an hour or so ago, I threw a grenade toward a window. However, the grenade bounced off the the frame of the window and came back at me. As it was coming back towards me, I took the expected course of action and got out of the way. However, just as I got out of the way, one of my squad members came running by. The grenade landed and exploded just as he came by, causing him to sustain damage and causing me to lose 25 points. In a situation such as this one, team damage was completely unexpected and was a complete accident. What do you think?

Depends. If it's a simulation type, like SWAT, I think it should be on. If it's just screwing around and killing another team like UT or TF2, then off. Then there's the game I'm currently playing, Borderlands. Shooting and throwing grenades at my team actually heals them. So I guess on in that case...?

Get some more skill in throwing your nades? In matches, FF on is a must. It takes more skill to work as a team knowing you can also kill your mates. Imagine just being able to call in airstrikes or similar nonstop at a critical objective, right on top of your teammates heads who are guarding it with guns, they can't get hurt but the enemy can. That would be retarded. In public servers off, because people do it intentionally, or are just too stupid to control their fire.

LOL

They should implement this mechanic more often

I prefer it to be off.

I prefer it on in most situations. But I think reducing damage from friendly fire incidents is probably common sense to gameplay. It just feels right to me when you can't run in as a teammate throws a grenade at an enemy without taking damage. It helps reduce spam I think. Obviously having said that if FF is an option in games then kick vote should be also an option to get rid of those people who take pleasure in regularly deliberate FF incidents.

More realistic really. It allows you to be more watchful of firefights. Not to run it front of a team mate while he is shooting (happens very often).

Depends, if im playing TF2 alot of teammates would die right off the bat from soldiers, demos, and silly WM1 pyros lol. so ofcourse I would like it to be off. but another game like BC2 then on.

In most cases I like it on, but it really depends on the game and ratio of teammates to enemies. If it's a game where I have a huge team walking all around me and only a couple of things to shoot at, it could get nasty.

But games like L4D, CS:S, BFBC2 (which doesn't have it) all need it. Just adds to the skill and realism factor.

I prefer it to be on, but it seems like other people never realize that it's on and always end up running in front of you. Ugh.

I prefer friendly fire in clan matches where you aren't going to get anybody team killing for fun. Otherwise, it isn't worth it because of the people out there that don't let it work. Then there are some games that should never have friendly fire, such as TF2 as mentioned above.

I love no respawn and friendly fire on, That is the only way to play anything else is just a mess of rockets and garbage like that making the game stupid and arcade like to me.

Friendly fire would be a bad idea while I'm around, because when my teammates are in the way I have a bad habit of trying to shoot through my them instead of finding space to shoot around them. I'm not malicious or anything, I just get so focused on killing the enemy that I can get stubborn/lazy and refuse to move for my teammates.

For games like Gears of War 2 - NO. But for games like Alien Swarm, Left 4 Dead series, a big emphatic YES. Overall, I have to say, it depends on the game, and the community. Wouldn't you agree?

It REALLY depends on the game. For example I would expect ARMA II's mutliplayer to have friendly-fire but I dont want Team Fortress 2 to have it.

I think the only time it should not be on is if it serves a purpose or is a useful game mechanic. (see TF2. If FF was on spy checking would be impossible) I hate games that normally have it off though. I don't mind dying from a nade I can take it but when the game supports the 'Throw a gernade into the crowd regardless of consequence' players. thats when I get pissy. If someone throws a nade at me fine I die but so should their team-mates that are right next to me.

I prefer a vote system. I have killed a few people who just love running across my line of fire like a noob and I get kicked if they do it a few times. Doesn't happen often but when it does that annoys me. Voting removes the chance of multiple accidents leading to a kick.

Well in our server we don't kick for TK. If he's doing it on purpose, we can kick him manually. And yes, I do launch votes for Friendly Fire, but that's only in Counter-Strike alright. In other games the FF is chosen before you start the game and can't be switched in-game. I myself like FF because it makes the teamwork better as well as the lulz when somebody accidentally throws a grenade where he wasn't meant to.

Really depends on what I'm doing, if I'm just in a pick up game I like it to be off, too many people out there who seem to lack basic concepts, like not running out in front of your squad mates while they're firing on the enemy. On the other hand, if I'm with my clan mates I like it to be on, we all understand our roles and don't do dumb *$&#, so we see even the possibility of the other team FF'ing each other, as an advantage.

when i used to play FPS games online alot i would always pick servers with FF on. having it off is for noob servers anyone who has played a game for any amount of time should know when to hold there fire, it also prevents idiots from walking in front of you while you are firing or lining up a shot.

It depends the game for me. For TF2 I like it off, so you can easily check for spies. For Battlefield games I like it on. RDX hopping in BF 2142 is just annoying.

I Prefer it on. It's just ridiculous in Bad Company 2 when a recon throws a mortar strike in a M-Com Station and teammates can go and plant it, but enemies can't go and defuse it

Exactly. There's no CHALLENGE when FF is off. But like I said earlier, some games like Gears of War 2 should have FF off because in that community, there's just no reasonable way of playing it with FF on. But for games like Alien Swarm, Left 4 Dead, it's a must and I feel completely out of place when FF is off.

Depends on the game

TF2 with friendly fire would be ridiculous.

But it makes sense to have it on in something like ARMA II.

What is it about Gears Of War 2 that makes you think it would be unreasonable to play it with friendly fire on?

It's self explanatory.

Given the attitude of the average XBL guy and considering the game wasn't designed to be played during an attention period, having friendly fire on would end up in having more people killing teammates than actual enemies because they respawn closer to you.

I usually like it on, unless I'm playing with spastic people who go "OHMYGOD IT'S MOVING KILLITKILLIT oh wait it's just you sorry man."

Then it's melee to the face in retaliation.

Not gonna lie, it can make for some pretty hilarious moments online.

Generally speaking though I prefer it off... or like in certain Gun Game servers in CS where friendly fire is activated after a certain point in the game.

It depends on the type of game. If it's an open environment like Battlefield, then yes. If it's more close quarters like Counterstrike, then no.
