what your opinion about kinect? Do you think it will hurt pc gaming or no?

Yearrrr....NO, I'll stick with my Wii; and the only thing that can hurt any gaming is the 3D by Nvidia on the PC - lucky it's not fully developed so consoles didn't die yetwhat your opinion about kinect? Do you think it will hurt pc gaming or no?

I personally do not think so, because consoles come out with cool stuff, then a new console comes out. Also, you can't customize a console (aside from case mod). I have stuck with PC my whole life, from SNES til now. In the long run, it should not hurt PC gaming
Why do you think it would?what your opinion about kinect? Do you think it will hurt pc gaming or no?

Yes it will hurt PC gaming, because the PC isn't made for spacious environments, so if a gamer gets too excited he might end up hurting himself, not being able to touch the mouse/keyboard for at least a few days, it might become as big as the "Wii broke mha TV" deal. But, no.
i'm hoping it can be used for the pc. that way i dont have to rely on my faulty xbox. and the modding potential would be nice

i was afraid that maybe happen if more developers will start developing more games that will require kinect to play than keyboard and mouse or gamepad. But now that kinect is hacked to work on pc there will be no problem making kinect games for pc

So your concern was not that everyone will move to motion control, but that everyone will move to 360? If that's the case, you and I are having two completely different conversations here.now that kinect is hacked to work on pc will we soom be able to play all games with kinect on pc?
STOCKMAN22
i dont think it works like that. Hacks usually come out per game. So if some modders like the kinect, they might make it work for crysis or half life 2(they did it with the wiimote i think). It's not easy, maybe not even possible, to hack the kinect to replace the mouse and keyboard while somehow keeping each game playable.
i dont really know much about hacking or mods but it doesnt make sense to be able to play with the kinect on any game unless someone specificallymodded it to work for that one game.
It's the other way around, PC might drive kinect sales due to hackers/modders allowing the PC to use the kinect hardware (Imagine 3D sculpting using kinect or a low cost mocap solution).GamarttoThis! This is the reason I have my eye on it. Since I have a strong interest in AI programming, I can definitely see how spending $150 on one of these devices can help me in my research projects :D
"There is nothing for (Xbox360) Kinect that makes me want to stand the **** up to play a game." to quote Alex Navarro.
I think it appeals to a completely different audience. Its great technology (although it could be better).
I am going to buy it in a day or two to play dance central with my wife.....you cant do that with a PC ;)
I don't need a $150 peripheral to dance with my husband either :PI think it appeals to a completely different audience. Its great technology (although it could be better).

That's exactly why I bought one...to play with the family/friends. It's pretty fun too especially the dancing game lol. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it but we play that one a lot it's pretty funny. To the topic, I don't think the PC has anything to worry about from Kinect. Heck, I don't think it will change much on the console it's actually for.I think it appeals to a completely different audience. Its great technology (although it could be better).

I doubt it kinect would control horrible for most games and unless they where specifically designed with kinect in mind.. Perhaps for use in a htpc setup it would prove useful.now that kinect is hacked to work on pc will we soom be able to play all games with kinect on pc?

And now after so many years they realised how much damage they did to pc, and decided to support it again starting with fable 3!
i agree, microsoft already did enough damage to pc gaming. Microsoft has done nothing wrong, gamers will just go to wherever they feel comfortable. PC gamers are not superior to console gamers, a lot of people just dont want to spend a ton of cash on a rig and then have to worry about drivers, and patches, and virus's, and whether to use steam or d2d or windows marketplace, also they dont want to have to worry whether their hardware can run the latest games, also they dont want to learn what ping is or why they shuld not connect to a dedicated server on the other side of the planet...often they just want to buy a game and play it :)[QUOTE="D1zzyCriminal"]

Wow when did they start releasing HD capable consoles ? Last time I checked the biggest game on the consoles at the moment isn't even in HD. As for Kinect, I doubt it will hurt PC gaming. Perversely I can actually see Kinect and Move hurting console gaming more than it will hurt PC gaming.
The PC will carry on regardless because it offers a gaming experience that the consoles still fail to reproduce and probably will never have the capablility of producing.

Whats youre problem? All im pointing out is this generation developers have begun to turn a blind eye to the PC since new consoles are capeable of alot more. The PC will allways be the more powerfull machine, but the gap is allways closing due to themainstream appeal of home consoles. New consoles can go online, download games, have very good chat capebilities, DLC, updates. All which wernt around on consoles before, or not very widely used.

Yes, consoles are closing the gap on PC's for sure! They will never cater for the same crowd but the Xbox and PS3 have come a long way.WOW I kicked up a hornets nest  I don't particular want to get into the whole "consoles are taking over PC's" rubbish simply because there is no end to that damn argument. The PC is the most dominant gaming platform on the planet even 5 - 6 years after the "next gen" consoles have been released it still remains the most dominant gaming platform on the planet.
Now this topic is meant to be about Kinect supposedly going to hurt PC gaming, from what I have seen of Kinect it offers a "novel" way to play a few types of game. I find it hard to see how you could use Kinect to play a first person shooter (the most popular genre by far) so until they can come up with a way to use Kinect to play ALL games with it then it will remain a "novelty".
Sony's Move is a different story, the move controller does work very well with FPS games or so I hear and you can use the Move controller to control nearly all games that come out on the PS3 so it could easily replace the joypad. The issue with Move is that it does not come "as standard" with consoles. You still have to buy Move on top of getting a console so it really depends on how many PS3 users actually adopt Move as their controller.
As I said I don't believe the motion control systems on the 360/PS3 are any danger to the PC. It is more likely they are a danger to the Wii and to the actual consoles themselves. People game on a PC for specific reasons that do not involve "motion control" so I can't see Kinect or Move having much of an impact on PC gaming.

I will take personal responsibility for starting the argument.
As for Kinect, I welcome the technology, it could be a usefull interface for more than games.
But ive said if before andI will say it here as it stands:
"Move is a Wiimote for the PS3, im not convinced.
Kinect is a good idea backed up by awefull Wii games.
However you spin it, both companies are flogging the dead horse Nintendo branded a long time ago."
If I could navigate windows with Kinect on my 32" TV, count me interested.

Your wish is my command ;) take a look at this video :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho6Yhz21BJI
It is more a proof of concept at the moment but the video does show Kinect being used on a PC to move photos around and do that multi touch thingie you can do on the iphone/ipod (you know pinch to enlarge).
There is no reason why Kinect couldn't be used to control a PC via motion and voice control (remember Kinect supports voice as well) but I really can't see it being accurate enough to replace any of the legacy control methods we currently use.
I may come across as a hardcore PC gamer but in reality the main reason I stay a PC gamer is that I love the mouse and keyboard control scheme. So at least for this gamer until the consoles can reproduce the accuracy, flexibility and control that a mouse and keyboard gives me then I will stay a PC gamer.
