Seriously, they're usually so ineffective at medium and long range... I stay away from them whenever possible. What about you?

Damn lol very misleading... To the point I prefer that shooters have a shotgun, and if the shotgun sucks, then the game sucks; at least it hurts the fun factor of it.

I like having a shotgun as a secondary weapon. Or just having Gordon Freeman's giant pockets

P.S:Wonder where he carries the RPG o.0

Started to use the shotties in L4D2 a lot more given that you need to move rapidly and its the quickest way to take down the infected - 1 shot with reasonable reloading times. The downside is that you can't take the ranged shots if someone gets caught by the infected at a distance.

i loved the shotgun in L4D1. I never played with anyone else because i did not want my brother to find out (it was his game and i was secretly playing it) so I did not really care if anyone else was attacked because they were generally always right up behind me.

It really depends on the game. When it comes to MP I do not think I have ever used them, except for L4D.... love it in that game. Other than that only in SP games. Shotties are the best when dealing with mutants/zombies/demons.

Absolutely! Shotguns are by far my favorite weapon type in games. It's a bad, bad day when I don't have my trusty boomstick (or two).

I actually hate using assault rifles, they just seem generic and cheap to me. That's yet another thing that Half-Life got right in my eyes.

Shotguns are generally one of the highest priorties to have in slot for effective short range encounters when I'm playing shooters.

Yes but it depends on the situation and the game. They are usually effective against zombies and other baddies you can get close up to and shooting without you getting killed first. The old Doom shotgun were great, especially the double barrel one. The new one in Doom 3 wasn't as great I found.

I totally agree with you. There is something about shotguns and creatures with non-humanoid behavior that just works so well. :P

I almost always have a shotgun as a secondary weapon with me. With an assault rifle as main. Only games I can say the shotguns are terrific though are stalker (I love going stealthy with a shotty) and L4D. Only time I take an uzi is large open space maps

I usually carry it as a secondary weapon for these special close combat situations, although there have been some memorable shotguns. The one in FEAR was my main weapon for a big part of the game, seeing as it was very effective in the close combat environments that most of this game consisted of. It also worked like a charm against those armoured enemies, and for some reason I never ran out of shotgun ammo, in contrary to machine gun ammo. The shotgun in The Conduit for Wii was pretty neat as well, and the one in Battlefield Vietnam also comes to mind.

Then there's the unforgettable shotgun in Conker's Bad Fur Day, in which one close range shot was enough to redecorate the room with your enemy's interior.

All the time.

If I'm not using an assault rifle, I'm almost certainly using a shotgun.

Some games the shotgun mechanics are not half bad, some are pretty bad though.

For instance one of the only real improvements MW2 had over MW1 was the shotgun mechanics, (Cod4 shotguns are almost completely useless over 12feet away.

Just using those as some quick examples.

What? The pump in CS is awesome, it's one of the few games that does the shotgun justice. Love scoring those random long range headshots with it.

That's fine. I used a combination of stealth (for closing in) and the shotgun for one (sometimes two) shot, one kill scenarios.

Only the AA-12 or equivalent:D

I just hate reloading shotguns and forgetting to until its too late. More than half the times I die with a shotgun in hand it's got one shell left in the chamber from all the hopping, pumping and shooting.

The automatic is no doubt the easiest weapon next to a submachine gun for n00bs at CS:S. You could probably pull a 1:1 ratio with em, but I doubt you'll live through many rounds cause you'll either run out of rounds and get fragged, or someone will get you from far away. If you prefire with a rifle at the right level its real easy to hs around corners, so shotties aren't really that useful..

Depends on the game, I loved them in Uncharted 2. I use them a lot in games like STALKER where you can change out the ammo for ones with a tighter spread or rifle ammo.

From what I noticed, shotguns seems to be good in games with zombies such as Doom, Half Life, L4D. Using it in any other game with enemies shooting at you just doesnt seem viable.

I like running up to things and blasting them point blank in the face.

Mass Effect 2, Halo CE, Zombie Panic: Source, Bioshock, heck even in Crysis I put a scope on my shotgun and took potshots just because I could.

Though some games I avoid them. I generally don't like them in KF, and the shotgun in TF2 is weaksauce. Left 4 Dead seems to be the only game(s) where I balance my different gun usage.

A levelled shotgun in Borderlands can be very deadly at close range, especially with exploding or corrosive rounds.

They can be somewhat effective at medium range if you have a scope, plus some decent damage values.

That's why you use it only once you've gotten into close range, and there are numerous and varied methods for doing that. It just requires a different sort of tactic is all.

Erm, they're shotguns. They're designed for CQC... Anyway, if the situation calls for it, yes I do.
