My friend told me that a dual core proc wouldnt work on vista 32 bit but only on the 64 bit version. I dont think this is true, but im ordering parts to build my comp really soon and just want to make sure.

Dual-core processors and 64-bit processing are different. 32-bit versions of Vista (and XP) are able to utilize both processor cores.

You can use dual core or quad core processors on 32-bit Vista, or single core (and also on 64-bit Vista). The degree to which the processor cores are utilized has more to do with what Windows-based applications you are running, and whether they are optimized to take advantage of multiple cores.

Ah, got to enjoy that friend that always try to sound smarter than you at computers. Haven't had that problem since I graduated from the Computer Support Specialist program at the college. Anyways, your dual core processor will work fine with Vista 32 bit and if you want to go back to XP, all you need to do is patch the system to allow it. (It is a quick boot.ini change that is done via servicepack/manufacturer patch) If I were you thought, I'd get the 32bit version, it has less issues with software and the industry still hasn't pushed to 64bit yet. (Come on guys, it has been how many years now?)
