they never said that the episodes are Half life 3. after the episodes are done im sure half life 3 will be confirmed.
and also, if they had just gone ahead and made HL3 we would still be wait 3 years to play more of this great series.
this is off topic, but woohoo! 300th post
......that Half-Life 3 is broken up into episodes? It seems like they are all very short and it seems like HL3 is really uncompleted because of the episodes. i think they should maybe collaborate all the episodes into one game, so it seems like it is longer.Dopemonk736
am i going crazy cause i though ther was HL 2 and 1 but not 3?

I heard that they were essentially Half-Life 3

am I the only one who thinks that if this were number threee it would be called half life 3 episode 1...etc.....no....it's called half life 2 episode 1.
They sid that HL2 EP2 will be about ten hours long, so it's a long game. Hey, would you like waiting another six years for the first to second, all over again?
I like this. At least we wait a year and a half instead of forever. ;)
While I am not a huge fan of the episodic content since they are shorter, I have to admit I like the fact that I can get a HL fix once every year or so instead of 4 years between games. So I will take the episodes and the bundled TF2 (which should be awsome) and enjoy them. Personally I prefer episodes over the obscene (though as HL2 showed, well warranted) developement cycles from Valve.
It is still the best optimized FPS engine available so you know it will be enjoyable AND stable, which is more than I can say for Bioshock, FEAR, Stalker, and the list goes on....
HL2 was a good game but Episode one was just horrible and boring. I'm just getting Episode 2 for TF2 thought tbh.Grantelicious
Honeslt i don't understand how you could really say that..ep 1 was WAY more varied and had alot of different situations unlike hl2 that had two chapters of shooting..then two of driving..then..etc. since they worked on a little amount they got to jam pack it with stuff..the quality was way higher. IMO
i don't consider it half life 3
i consider them expansions to half life 2, they can throw around words like episodic, but it doesn't mean anything to me, the episodes are expansions, plain and simple
if half life continues after episode 3, what are they gonna call it? half life four? it's just a name, if half life continues after "3", then that's half life 3 in my book, if it ends after the episodes, then it ended with expansion 3 of half life 2 - it's just industry buzzwords if you ask me, they are expansions, that they play out in sequence does not change anything in my mind
i don't mind episodic content, though - i'd rather play 4 hours every 18 months than wait five years for a twelve hour game, if you wanna play it all at once - you can always wait and play it all at once like you would anyway, at least this way we have the choice -- provided the quality is there, i don't mind how they release it or what they do with it, but ep1 was such a mediocre game by half life standards, i'm surprised it ever got made - and it'snot surprising they're throwing in extras this time (even if they are screwing is with the orange box)
all round, i think it doesn't make a difference provided the games are great

1. Episode one was only 4 hours long (when i completed it anyways)
2. Episode one took place in alot of places HL2 did which sucked ebcause i don't want to see the same crap over and over again.
3. No new weapons, was just all the old weapons from 1999 and they're getting well boring and dated now.
4. Nothing added for multiplayer
5. Alyx was soooo annoying and **** me off cause i had to constantly do what she wants and tbh she should go back to the kitchen.
6. No vehicles
etc etc.

Here is a quote from Gabe Newell:
The arc of the trio of episodes is also about the G-Man. He appears briefly in Episode One, and we'll get more info on him later. If you think of Half-Life 1 as the G-Man trying to turn you into something that was useful to him - the transformation of the player into hero. And then Half-Life 2 was about how he was using you.Half-Life 3 [a.k.a. Episodes One to Three]
is about the relationship with the G-Man and what happens when he loses control of you, when you're not available to him as a tool and how he responds to that, and what are the consequences of that. The Gabe

You don't have to buy the Orange Box. You can buy Ep2 with TF2 and Portals off of Steam, plus you can preload it and play it the minute it is released. Not to mention they will probably give you 5 bucks off if you preorder it on Steam (like they did with Ep 1), which lasted up until live (I preordered it an hour before live and still go the discount). Unless you don't have Ep1 or the original game there is no point in buying the retail box.
I could really care less if the episodes are rather short, and despite what some people are insinuating it is not HL3. If there is one it will probably not even be confirmed until after all the episodes are out. Personally I'm just gonna ride it out and wait for news of HL3.Overmind1149
I've read multiple interviews where Valve staff themselves have said that the episodes are "replacing" HL3. The HL story is done when episode 3 is done. But there's always room for more...

I call BS on that. No where has Valve said episodes will be the end of the series.
Well I haven't played them but since you said that they are small I think that I would. I never really like expansion packs because they are small and only usually had a couple things, it is just better to get a mod for free.xwolfghost
Who's that girl?!
OT: I don't like the fact that they're not in stores (don't want to buy through steam) and that's because they're episodes, so yeah!

1. The length is irrelevant because it's an episode and it makes sense for the price.
2.I don't remember a parking garage in hl2. Oh and what about the elevator sequence...there were alot more different SITUATIONS then there were in hl2.Oh and they also added the Zombine enemies there. And the platform elevator action sequences with alyx. The train depot..alot of situations that were fun.
3.I don't thinkthe new weapons would have fit with the storyline because since you had already been in the citadel it would've been cheap to pop new weapons in.
4. multiplayer?!...are you serious?! The multiplayer is basically counter strike with half life characters....
5.You're a sexist pig on this regard. and alyx NEVER did anything ladylike..she was down and dirty with calculations machines..heck she built her own robot so based on her character that was completely unfounded genius.
6..vehicles again would not have made sense with the storyline since they were in a city...now that they'll be in wider places..theres a new vehicle.
