It's certainly possible :D
I find gaming on the PC and my 24" monitor more immersive than on consoles and my 58" HDTV. Most likely has to do with the closer distance to the screen and typically better graphics on the PC in addition to the higher res available. It allows for much better attention/appreciation to finer details which contributes heavily to the immersion, for me.
GS recently had a nice feature comparing a few multiplatform games such as Fallout 3, Dead Space, and GTA IV and definitively found the PC versions to be the best-looking. It's nice to see PC gaming get its due from time to time when it seems like people are forgetting about it.DGFreakIts funny how they did this, the PC was obviously better, yet they award best technical graphics to a PS3 game...
I agree with everyone that has said it's most likely because you're sitting at MOST a couple feet from your monitor.
As well as if you're using surround sound/good headphones with a good sound card like I am, then you hear just about everything in the game. It allows you to become even more immersed in your game. Which obviously is a good thing in certain games (Footsteps in CS:S), but makes you wish you had no sound at all in others (Which are the scarier games for me, like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. :P ).
