well I was just asking because it seem that plasma are cheaper than lcd/led anyways one of the reason I have not purchase a plasma is because I have read that is just not recomended because of burn in. On the other hand almost an every comparison a plasma always has the upper hand in terms of picture quality I.E put the best LCD/LED against pioneer elite plasma you get the picture as for my question for those who own a plasma tv do you play games on it and how are the results? I can only imagine playing a pioneer plasma elite (and yes I know they make and lcd aswell but thats not the question)

Well I don't own a plasma (Not yet anyway, but soon hopefully!) but I do know that burn-in isn't even a problem in 99% of plasma TVs now a days. The technology has evolved to a point where that isn't even a concern, and they have built in "cleaners" that will remove any sign of burn in.

There are tons of posts on plasmas in this forum and as ChubbyGuy40 says, burn-in is no longer an issue with newer plasmas and plasma is probably better for gaming in that there is no inherent motion lag.

I've got a Panasonic Viera (plasma). Have never had a problem gaming on it.;)

I am conscious not to leave the screen idle for too long, but I've never had an image burnt into it.

Word has it that 'flashing' it with a white screen clears burn marks anyway.

All of the newer plasmas have implemented anti-burn-in technology. Audioholics.com have gone so far to testing plasma burn-in by displaying solid white menus on a black backgrounds for a day or more. They've found the burn-in to be minimal and the built-in screen wipe eliminates it. By the way I've played vidogames on plasmas and lcd. A co-worker games (daily) on a Vizio 50" that is three years old and he has no burn-in issues

I see so what do u guys recomend. panasonic has a 50 inch plasma that neck to neck with the pioneer elite plasma (well that comes as a result of them working together and then pioneer giving the tv industry a break, panasonic pretty much took advantage of that and took there tehnology and made it much cheaper for consumers) Or a lcd/led Im sure most of you have gone to bestbuy and seen there set up as soon as you walk in the store I think is a a 52 inch lg or samsung with a blu-ray player and its playing pirates of the carribean or transformores the thing looks so damn clear, crisp, and sharp i nearly went to the tv and ask johnny depp for an autograph...jk

I do. It has not suffered from burn-in and I've played 100s of hours of Street Fighter 4 on it. I like Plasmas over LCDs because there's no motion-blur and cause Plasmas produce better blacks and colors.

Plasma is as close to a picture tube you can get and is more forgiving with the lower resolution signals i.e. analog cable. The disadvantage of plasma is its short lifespan and extreme sensitivity to burn in. Dont even think about playing video games on it or leave a dvd menu on the screen. LCD has been around for ever and now the higher end brands like Sony make them look just as good as plasma. The only reason plasma exists is they could make the LCD's in the larger sizes and make them affordable. Now that LCD prices have come down you will see plasma go away. The bigger brands are not making plasma anymore.

After about 10 years plasmas will lose half the original brightness, but even then they will keep on going probably 5+ years after that.

extreme sensitivity to burn in.Allisa1

Extreme? I just played probably about 10 hours of assassin's creed 2 and I don't see any burn-in on any of the static images.

Even if there was any it would go away almost instantly after playing something els.

Dont even think about playing video games on it or leave a dvd menu on the screen. Allisa1

you're wrong on so many fronts, please stop posting here and anywhere on the internet.

100,00 hours is hardly a short life span

burn in has been proven to be no longer an issue.

Samsung and Panasonic as still making plasmas, are there bigger brands in the TV business than these two right now?

to the OP, I have a 50 Panny viera plasma, the p85u, I love it, and Im sure you will too.

This is all wrong. Current generation plasmas have longer half-lifes than LCD's, they are not very sensitive to burn-in, you can definitely play video games on them, although LCD has gotten better, the best LCD's still are not as good as the best plasmas and they cost more, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips and LG are 4 pretty large brands that make plasma.

Out of every tv I've played on my boys 52inch Panasonic Viera is by far the best. Not gonna lie I felt privileged playing on it. Its at least 4 years old and is left on in the XBL menu for hours (hes forgetful) without the slightest hint of image retention. As for LED LCD i have no clue but I hate LCD moition blur and its other quirks. My next tvs gonna be a Plasma...
