Hello, I was wondering if any of the older gamers here have ever played the game: Syndicate and it's sequel Syndicate Wars? It was squad based tactical shooter that had players control cyborgs in a bid to control the world. It first came out in the early 90's I think when the top of the line CPU was a 486. It was quite popular at that time from what I could tell. And hopefully something along that line of game will come out in the future.

I loved Syndicate - still have my copy kicking around somewhere (although I have no idea which box it's buried in). My strongest memory of the game was the one level with civilians gathered along the road to watch a parade or something, and me marching my agents through and blowing them all up and burning them. Good times.

Didn't play a whole lot of Syndicate Wars, but I don't recall enjoying it as much as the original game.

Yeah, I remember playing that game way back when I got (or my parents got us) our first PC. I was only about 12 or so, so I didn't get massively far in it, but I remember it being a great game. One of the first PC games I played (alongside Doom and Cannon Fodder - another great old-school game), it helped get me started along this path of video gaming (well, it started with a tape-drive C64, but anyways...). Sort of like like a strategy/rpg/action/shooter, great stuff back in the day

A remember it, IMHO Syndicate Wars was the better game of those two, but I liked them both :) Someone should make a sequel to it, unfortunately Bullfrog is history

syndicate wars was awesome because it was the first 3D RTS - the graphics were unbelievable. Syndicate was pretty sweet though - I remember the first time I fried someone with the flamethrower and they went running around on fire. Took forever to get the damn weapon though.

Yep, Syndicate was an awesome game, I still have both my copies of Syndicate and Syndicate Wars (which I enjoyed immensly, the destructable environment was so much fun, calling down orbital strikes on buildings and reducing them to rubble)

My fondest memory was using a persuadatron to recruit the entire civilian population (including police) of a map and storming a rival corporation base with them, there was mass carnage on every front. I might even dig out my copy and see if it still works =D

i forgot about the mind control - I only wish the AI on the zombies was better - I can remember them getting stuck and attacking each other.

Yeah, the AI was really basic, and the persuaded civs would just fire at targets regardless of what was infront of them (inlcuding your agents). I died a number of times to my persuaded zombie horde's friendly fire =P

It was basically the same game, but with better graphics and two different teams to play (Eurocorp and the Church of the New Epoch)

Never got to play it on a Pc.

Did play it on 3DO. Cannot remember if it was the first one or the second.

They did a excellent job on the controls for a game that came from a mouse and keyboard.

There was also an expansion between the original game and syndicate wars. that expansion game was HARD!!!!!

I played and loved both. SW had some awesome multiplayer moments at our local LAN cafe. I used to use the clone generator to disguise my agents as civilians, but you had to be careful as fully upgraded bionic units were pretty obvious 'cause they moved at about 10 times the speed of normal civiliains. Nothing was more obvious than four "citizens" flying down the street in formation.

After about 15 minutes of play, every destructable building in the map would have been destroyed and every civilian killed in collateral damage. At that point it was just a four on four battle in a big pile of rubble, which pretty much killed all strategy. :)

Also, we used to use the cheat code that let you buy the "experimental" gun that was ordinarily only available in the SP campaign.

Syndicate was a great game.  It had that cyberpunk feel to it while you worked for a ruthless corp taking out other corps.  I also went out and bought the American Revolt add-on pack.  I still remember the tag line - "Remember the Atlantic Accelerator - All the missions are like that in American Revolt!".  With that taunt, I had to have the expansion pack.

I finished the game several times over and was completely jazzed to hear about the Syndicate Wars follow up.  Unfortunately, it came out when Windows95 was becoming mainstream and had issues running under Win95.  I tried in vain to play it, but the two faction thing really sucked and the game just did not have the charm of its predecessors.

Thanks for reminding me about Syndicate.  I have not played it in awhile and I think it is about time for me to take down the man!
