I just started playing the game, and I just finished chapter 3, or whatever you wanna call it. Does the game get any scarier as it progresses?

Nah, it gets less so. It scared me for the first half hour or so, but then I discovered you can just run around the enemies and they cant really hit you.

I never really found it scary, just fun. By the second half of the game you are so powerful that you just mow down enemies as they come at you with ease

Early parts were kinda scary, but the game dousnt evolve so inevitably gets as boring as a phone call to your parents.

The game isn't psychologically scary; it relies on flickering lights, eerie ambient noises and shock tactics to get a scare out of you. I was pretty tense until about chapter 5, when your weapons start beefing up in power. I find it best to play at night, when everyone is asleep; you get more "scary" out of it.

I never found the game scary, probably because even on the hardest difficulties one easily has the weapons to just blow up anything in your way.

The further you get into it, the less scary it becomes. You get bigger guns, loaded on ammo, that's just not scary.

**** i thought it was scary and i'v done a tour in Iraq and two in afghan! the ambiance is just amazing its the real monster of the game, the creatures dont scare me but when the music tenses up and the lights go out and you hear shuffling, thats what gets my hair standing

The enemies get tougher but your arsenal gets stronger. It probably becomes less scary because you are used to Necromorphs jumping at you and know most of the enemy types so can counter them pretty easily.

The most honest answer I can give is this...

At the beginning it was scarier .. There were more parts that kinda creeped you out.

In the middle, it was a little less scarier, there were still a few parts that were kinda good...

Towards the end, it was a little less scarier, but there were still a few creepy parts and some wow parts..

But it is noticably more creepy of a game at the beginning of it... more mystery... Its one of the things humans fear most, the unknown.

I wonder if people here got confused with dead space 2 when they say "its not scary" or "it gets less scary" If anything dead space gets MORE scary as you progress.

beginning is kind of scary then after that it gets less and less scary till you reach the middle part(which is also scarry) of the game chapter 5,6 then after that till the end it gets quite easy and predictable...

It's not scary as such, it's tense, tense because things jump out all over the place. Having said that it highly depends on what difficulty setting you have it on. If for instance you have it on easy then there is zero tension whatsoever as you are never going to get killed. If you have it on a high difficulty setting, then you will be tense as if you aren't tense and alert you will die.

Regardless of how 'scary' people perceive it to be, it's a great experience. Personally I find the game to be more thrilling the harder the difficulty. The harder the enemies are, the more scarce your ammo and the more likely your death.

The only part of the game that scared me was that 'regenerator' monster you had to freeze. Reminded me kind of like RE: nemesis with him chasing you lol.

I was scared a lot playing this game, thats because I played with only the laser cutter and was constantly running out of ammo or needed to get intant kills.

My recommendation would be to play it on hard. It'll increase the tension, make ammo more scarce, and the necromorphs will be tougher. Playing on Normal just doesn't cut it. If you want the full experience, play it on hard mode so you don't feel so "overpowered."
