First off, those screenshots show the difference between DX9 and DX10 in Crysis, and I am very impressed. Much larger improvements then I expected. But besides that, according to the devs, when you enable High on both DX9 and DX10, it performs better in DX10. DX10 maxed out will perform worse, though, do to more options you can enable (Very High is DX10 only).

No! It's from a movie! Curse you!

The mountain picture is apparrntly bugged, the mountains don't have the right LOD they won't look that bad

I think these pics are fabricated just like those comparison vids. They had motion blur in DX9 before and light shafts too

Those don't look like they're 3d. 3D means you could freeze frame the game, zoom down to a wave and you could pan around that wave and see actual geometry in the wave. An example is from one of those screenshots of Crysis. Look at the jaggies on the edge of the waves. The reason there's jaggies there is because they are actual real edges, physical edges and not just an effect.

If you see an object in the water in Crysis, and a wave is moving towards it, the object will physically be affected by the wave hitting it because the waves are now like real physically rendered.

As for bringing up UT3, no idea why you did that since the new Crysis engine is technically more advanced than UE3.

These screenshots look amazing!! I cant wait to fire up the 8800's and play it on VERY HIGH. For anyone who hasnt upgraded their computer in the last 3 years dont hate on a game because you cant maxxx it out. Its not their fault and its not our fault so stop complaining and upgrade or dont buy it and then complain because your x1800's wont maxxx it out...what?...when you bought that card you thought graphics would never improve to the point that you needed a new graphics card?!!?!? thats absurd!!! CANT WAIT TO PLAY THIS!!! CRYSIS>UTIII in terms of visuals!

if you want to dual boot we have a guide in our Union, check it

I myself am going to buy a 2nd HDD for Vista Home Prem OEM. Just for games, cause I cant stand VIsta as an operating system myself.

Why cant you stand Vista??? Or are you just following the masses? Ive been using it since it came out and it is spectacular. Its a ram hog, so what. If you have a gaming machine you have 2 gigs or more anyway. You cant just say you hate it because everyone else does...elaborate please...? Just wandering why you dont like it. And for anyone that doesnt like Vista (for some wierd reason) its the ONLY place to get dx10 so you can play all the dx9 you want...just try not to cry tears of joy when i send you dx10 screenshots because your pride got in the way of a better gaming experience.

Iuse it everyday at work and on my laptop. ITs a bloated mess that has a DRM in it and in essence, even M$ has problems with, seeing as now they have extended the life of XP by another 6 months, so that is a total of 1 yr, plus the fact that XP is back on the shelves for DELL and Micro Velocity. Theyres even doing a new Service Pack for XP coming out too, well rumored to anyways.

So its the masses that have a problem with it and I do too. NOt only am I experienced with Computers, but its hard to use, my father is somewhat PC literate and his new PC came with it hes completely lost. SAme with my mom who has been on PCs for even longer then my 20yrs.

I do not enjoy it, it just makes things harder and sucks up RAM. Has application problems, networking problems, printer setup problems and SLI problems. XP will always be my number OS of all time from M$, VIsta just hit the bottom of the can with Windows Millenium in my books.

Also this is the first game that really makes you say wow for Dx10, which we still have really yet to see. Bioshock, nope, Company of Heroes, nope, Call of Juarez, nope, Lost Planet, nope. Nothing too spectacular. So you can see Dx9 looks amazing, can you really justify why people want to spend $130 on an OEM and trying to dual boot it on a single HDD.

IMO its the DRM that hurts this OS, but also how bloated it is, with countless applications running sucking up stuff. Were supposed to have a Service Pack 1 today, but we dont.

XP will be for all my everything on my home desktopand Vista will just be there to game on. Thats it for me

Great images, but IMO Crysis looks so well in DX 9 with sets at max that the jump to Vista is unnecessary for me. Shame that the mp in XP have not destructable vegetation or day/night cicle, but as I say I will not change my OS just for these changes.

XP SP2 rules (at least until 2009). Will be funny to see hown may units can sell Remedy of his Alan Wake (only supported in Vista and 360). IMO a high end DX 10 card worth the money because his performance even in DX 9, but to invest in Vista today is just absurd, a waste of money and resources. I even doubt that Crysis will run at higer framerrate in DX 10.

Anyway, awesome game, I'm waiten specially the Power Struggle mp.

According to Crytek the game performs better in DX10mode compared to DX9 and the ultra settings is DX10 only.

What media DRM are you referring to? OEM means the support comes from the manufacturer so what did you expect? Some people buy OEM software expecting full support for some odd reason. If you buy a Dell computer the Windows Installation is OEM and Dell is the one that is suppose to provide the support. You can always call Microsoft and they will activate it for you even though it's not suppose to work like that.

Im aware of this, but the OEM setup is even different from XP. So theydropped the ball there. They make 90% of their money from pre-builts and companies buying upbulk Vista boxes. And yes you can call M$ and try to lie about your disk, but my friends have already swapped out their boards for 680i boards from AMD NF4 and they tried that trick and both of them had to buy another CD Key for $50. Never happened to them in their lives with XP and with me.

You need to go read up on the media DRM, Im not explaining it. Lets just say XP has no problems with this. Im glad you have no problems, but like I said, but more people do then dont.

The OS is renoun for problems, its bloated applications and RAM requirements. Its problems with networking, servers, printers, applications, games, SLI, Crossfire.

I sure hope the Alky Project goes through nicely. But by then I will be on Vista just for games. And its a long work in progress too.

Its a freaking game people, lets try to keep it focused on the gameplay most of the time! You want pretty pictures, go outside, go to the beach, and go to an art museum.

I'll stick with my XP (and 8800GTS 320MB)

It still doesn't look worthy, to sacrifice 15GB of hard drive (I'm really in a poor situation with my hard drive), + all the RAM taken away, as I have "only" 2 GB.

the only setting affecting me is pretty much the mountain LOD, since imo too much motion blur is annoying, the water is already damn good, and the sunshafts are avaible in dx9 too ( well in the beta at least, and they are the same as the dx10 ones).

i still have to wait and see this motion blur in real action, not in the beta MP I am in. Cause the perpixel motion blur in Cell Factor is better, but its also alot more complex, which inturn is more stressful on the system.

I use Vista with quadruple monitor setup using file sharing/remote desktop and most of Vista's network features. I ran about 40 games on it and they all worked fine (some after minor tweaking). I am a software engineer and use Visual Studio, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Flash, MySQL, Oracle Form, Adobe Premiere and others with zero problems.

I have 2 printers set on my main gaming PC, they work fine via network or not. The search function is an integral part of vista, making everything accessible in an instant. If your parents/you can't find a specific function in the control panel, just type the name of it in the search bar for instant findage.

Vista eats up ram mostly for pre caching, this way applications run faster at the start - also making the OS much more responsive. For once the interface is not bottle necked with cpu threads, it is completely dependant on the GPU. No memory leak, better use of multi core systems, etc...

BTW if you disable some of the new vista services that you may find useless, vista only uses about +100mb of ram compared to XP to run if you don't include pre caching. Tweak it a bit and while you're doing so you might get used to it and help your parents. Just saying.

YEAH ... but stuff they don,t say

did they swap the card from a 7900 (or so) to a 8800 (kinda) .... or did they use the exact same card, with the exact same settings AND ONLY DISABLE THE DX10 FONCTIONNALITIES ???
thats something that is never said for pictures

i'm not flaming crysis, i sure will buy it and be delighted with it
