sometimes if u dont fragment your hard drive often it can cause slow downs on gamesKh1ndjal
Yeah. If I were you, I'd defrag my hard drive after every new install. It's a good habit to get into and takes very little time.

Uh. No?
A lot of people have single 500 gig drives, and defragging that using the Windows tools can take forever, especially when all you want to do is play a game. The only reason I even bother doing it is because I bought a small Raptor (40GB, 10000RPM) specifically for game installations. I wouldn't recommend defragging after every install, just once in a while - maye overnight, or on the same day you do a backup (if you make backups, that is).
Your computer will die if there is like >10gb left. I don't really know why but if you get under about 10 gb it kills just about everything. Games don't run, or if they do it is really slow and music, internet, misc. takes ages aswell. However aslong as you have enough space (and it looks like you do) then you should be fine.solid_mario
This is because your system needs "swap space". A good analogy for your HD not having swap space is this: how do you move water between glasses if all your glasses are full?

It doesn't take that much time. :P Even with a big fat hard drive, it won't take long if you do it often. If you absolutely cannot wait a few minutes to defrag before playing a game, then yeah, have your computer work while you sleep. Otherwise, grab a cup of coffee or something and post comments in this forum while your computer streamlines.
It's not really crucial. It's just better to do it than not. Maintenance is a good thing.
talking of defragging, when i go to defrag the pc the estimated levels of usage before and after defragging are the same. so i dont bother. should i??
ive used up 66% of my hdd.
jpph
Absolutely!
Defragging doesn't free up space, it just consolidates data. This means that your system can access the information it needs more quickly. Like I mentioned before, I personally wouldn't recommend doing it every time you move a file, but as iwokojance said, it's good practice to do it once in a while.
