I'm just wondering because I'm naturally a console player. I own a Playstation 3 however refuse to buy a 360 as a computer comes off better value for me and so I wish to use my 360 controller wherever possible. I attempted to plug it into my PC and had no luck. I'm really bad when it comes to PC gaming so forgive my lack of intelligence. I don't even know what DX10 does. So is it just me or is Mass Effect just flat out not compatible with wired 360 controller's. I mean, it makes sense to me given the game was originally released on 360 a year beforehand.

Out of curiosity, if the controller is incompatible, what about the sequel. Does that support 360 Controller's?

Don't worry, Mass Effect is better without a controller, but anyway, I don't know because I haven't tried. Unless, you play the game for gameplay only, then ou don't need one. I recommend the easiest mode. The replay value isn't in the combat anyway.

Thanks for replying. I know the keyboard may be better for PC Gamers but I WANT to play the game with a controller--regardless of everyone's opinions with a keyboard. I'm what you would call a casual PC gamer. One who uses the PC as a secondary console and to dabble in a few MMORPG's and RTS' here and there. Controller's just fit my hand better and I use them a lot more frequently than I use a keyboard (for gaming.)

You can use programs like Xpadder, but the game was really designed for the keyboard and mouse. The hacking minigame, the power hotkeys, the power bar...

Sadly both ME and ME2 do not support the 360 natively like many other games. Their reasoning was because they wanted to make the mouse / kb the best it could be. Somehow taking the code already working on the Xbox 360 would break all that. I personally think it's stupid.

I went through the same as you. I did get a wired 360 controller working with ME using XPadder, but I still kept wanting to do stuff on the keyb as well - the controller/keyb started to irritate. I trained myself to use the native controls. It took a bit of time, but got the hang of it now and also means I can feel smug when I see the controller vs keyb/mouse wars 'cause I can now do both :)

The frequency of play and the type of games you play make you casual, not the tools you play them with.

The PC generally uses the KB+M. You could program a pad but given that you are "casual" this may not be something you want to do plus you will need a pad with tons of buttons or a controller that can be programmed with button combinations because the menus and such are not the same as on the console. The PC is many things including the best gaming platform, bar none, on earth but it is definitly not plug and play. It is what it is.

To be completely honest with you, its been my experience that when someone asks the question you asked, it generally means that they really dont want to use the PC for one of a dozen reasons. Furthermore, even I wouldnt take the time to program a contoller because I would need to make a custom profile for every game and thats just a waste of time. I would either learn to use the keyboard so you can finally enjoy all PC games or save you money & wait for another $99 xbox arcade deal. You definitly do not need the hard drive. I got a free one from my friend and the only thing it gets used for is demos. Completely unnecessary plus MS is allowing you to plug in a USB drive anyway so it makes the internal drive even less necessary.
