Hi there so i ve the following pc and i just wanted to know weather it qualifies for new games at MAXED settings and at a 1440*900 res???

Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon x2 5200+ OC'ed @ 2.8Ghz

ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 MOBO

Transcend 4 GB(2 x 2 GB) 667Mhz DDR2 RAM

XFX HD 4770 512 MB OC'ed @ 830/900

WD Caviar BLACK 320GB and Samsung SPINPOINT F3 500GB HDD

Creative Quadro sound system(4.0)

Umax full steal mid tower case

Npower 450W PSU

Windows 7--64-Bit---Ultimate

Its in the lower mid range but the high end is so much more than what is needed at this time it is crazy. You should be able to run alot of games with decent settings but the high end stuff you wont max thats for sure at the resolution you want. Your 64 bit windows 7 is going to be a issue for old games because they dont run on 64 bit. I am going through some issues myself with it, I cant get Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to run to save my life.

Your 64 bit windows 7 is going to be a issue for old games because they dont run on 64 bit. I am going through some issues myself with it, I cant get Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to run to save my life.

Hey i run COD 1 in win 7.... LOL all u got to do is right click on the game icon and select properties. Then select the compatibility TAB and choose "run this game with compatibility mode wit XP SP2 and ur good to go :) Even after that if the game starts but doesnt respond then open Task manager and go to process and change the priority to low and it will RUN :D And what if i run the game at 1280 x 1024??? will i be able to max all games accept CRYSIS and GTA4 of course???

Judging by your sig you already know what your talking about and know that your rig is pretty up to snuff. The only thing i see thats in need of any upgrading at all is your PSU. although it might tank your system, its not a brand i reconginze and 450 watts might not be enough. I reccomend moving up to a 550-600 watt PSU.

It's true, though. The 4770 is close to the 4850, and the 4850 is equivalent to the gts 250. Hence, UltimateGamer's conclusion :P

I know what m talking...... but i max all games including CRYSIS on my rig but i only ve a 17" monitor with max res of 1024*768..... so i was thinking of getting a new one so i asked u guys how would this work at those res as i dont believe on online benchmarks, as they use old drivers :) and yeah the psu is keeping me from pushing the CPU and GPU to much higher stable clocks..... Before i had a 9400GT and i had my CPU OC'ed at 3.2GHZ on stock for months... but when i got this card i had to keep it at 2.8 :( and the card is super overclockable and i can keep it running for long on 830/900.... I will get a new psu soon... maybe a 600W Crossfire certified one

I meant for the price that its being sold and the performance it gives.... sure u can get a 4870 for a little more but someone who has a tight budget.. its pretty good....

But its a 1GB version and its really good at higher res....

IF you intend to upgrade at all, this is what I would recommend:

New 22" Monitor ( 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 resolution ) - Try Samsung/LG/Acer/Asus.

New Power supply around 650w - Corsair Hx series/Coolermaster Silent Pro/OCZ Z-series.

Also I searched for your MOBO on the internet, and found it only has 1 PCI-Express x16 slot, so crossfire certification isn't a must for your rig. I'm also thinking that it's a PCIE 1.0 x16 interface which is bandwidth limited these days, so I would stay with mid-range graphics cards because the higher-end GPU's will be bottlenecked by the interface.

You might as well ;)

On-topic: I would consider any PC that plays modern games well a "gaming" computer. Some people may only call a >$1000 pc "gaming" but just ignore them.

IF your getting a new MOBO/CPU/RAM, and aren't wanting a new monitor too then I would say don't upgrade, you'll see an improvement in your gaming experience with a new monitor to go with it.

Also too I used to have a Ati HD 3850, upgraded to this monitor I have now, then got a 5850, but whilst using the 3850 it performed fairly well.

Hmmmm.... hey u too ve the same card :D tell me ur experiences..... what all games u play and at what res with the avg fps :D it would help a lot.... and is there a big drop in fps by switching from 1024*768 to 1440*900 or 1280*1024.....

Well just think, by December 2010 which is when you plan to buy the new MOBO/CPU/RAM and practially build a new PC, you'll have saved up enough money right? even after buying a new monitor in the near future.

I'm also sure in December we here could suggest parts for the Build, depending on budget.

Also if you did buy a new monitor which is 1680x1050/1920x1080, you can still Lower the resolution in Game Settings to 1360x768, and also play without AA if the 4770 isn't upto the job depending on a the game. So once you do build a new rig in December your covered monitor wise so your games on the new rig with the newer hardware will shine :)

What I'm trying to say is a new monitor is a lasting investment, which could see you through a couple of PC's without needing to be replaced so soon.

Yeah but that game is from the 2000s, game from the 90s is where the issues come in. Need some work arounds usually.

Well that's becasue you used emulators. I have to use DosBox to run some of my 95 games. I mean without third party tools to run your games.

FS2 is from 1999-ish, and it ran without emulators. That's pretty much the extent of my old-game library without emulators, though :(

Well that's becasue you used emulators. I have to use DosBox to run some of my 95 games. I mean without third party tools to run your games.

lol, yeah my 1998 Star Wars Ep1 The Phantom Menace runs in Win98 copmpatability, as well as the 1998 Asteroids game, but my older stuff like magic Carpet and stuff need dos box

now u had given the link for FARCRY 2 which is completely a nvidia architecture based game... so it will do good... while this COD5 is not like that :) so u see it performs on par with the GTS250 and its 1GB :)

Yeah.... some guys did volt modd and took the core to 875 and memory to 1150.... thats insane,..
