Partition Magic does work well, but what you would use and how depends on your OS I would say.

You should have no problem with XP and Partition Magic. As for Vista, try the disk management section of the OS - or my choice: Acronis Disk Director Suite.

That software is easy to use; partitions anything on the fly and works great even with Vista x64. Acronis roxx!

Can I run the vista disc again, format/reinstall it and resize the partition to 50gb? Or can I only do that if I didn't have stuff on my second partition?

Both, but I'm not sure, why not backup the data somewhere else temporarly then doing it?

I would still say it would be easier to resize the partitions using Vista's disk manager or Acronis Disc Director if you do not have sope special reason to format the partition...

Gparted is a good utility for resizing partitions. It's a pretty hefty download though.

I was going to recommend that, but I'm not sure if he will lose his data. Ubuntu has that built in too.

Even slightly older versions of Partition Magic have issues with Vista, if I remember correctly. The Disk Management tool is really the best thing to use with Vista.

Partition Magic and Vista....ding-ding-ding: NOT GOOD :) that's OK.

Disk Management? Now that littly handy-dandy tool has some asounding limitations. Like you can expand partitions only to the right or something like that... Can you believe it? :D Like some sokoban game...

I do not know Gparted, but believe me, I have spend a bunch of hours trying to resize, delete, expand, make new, etc. partitions with Vista x64. I have tried a couple of progs, and the only one that really worked, without complaining for anything, and without killing my partitions/filesystem or any data was Acronis Disk Director...

I am using that with Ubuntu/Vistax64/XP partitions with tripple-booting [now I even have Windows 7 somewhere] and it works great.

The advantage with Gparted is that you're unmounting the partitions before shifting things around so you're not running it from inside Vista64 because it runs as a live CD. The other big advantage over Acronis is that Gparted is free. Here is a link explaining how to resize partitions without losing data.

That's cool. I mean this topic is not my question, but thank you :) I'll check it out.
