I know there is Steam which is amazing, but I really hope that steam grows bigger than it is. I mean when you hear PlayStation Nation, you would think that all the PlayStation players from all over the world meet and gather under one name or network. This is not how I feel when it comes to PC. It feels like PC gamers are scattered and some are lost here or there and have the option to download their games on different software and this thing really bugs me.

Does it also bug you that you are allowed to choose where you buy your food in real world? You think that it would "unite" people if they would be forced to only use one specific retailer?

Weirdest thing i've read this week.

I don't understand the question, why would you want everyone using the same service? You will find over 600,000 playing games like CS:GO at once per day, Overwatch also has a big playerbase. Mobas have even more. There isn't a shortage of players.

Having everyone under one service would be a shit show, and it's one of the reasons you don't have to pay for online on PC. Paying for crap tier online service on consoles is such a joke.

It bugs you that PCs have a more consumer-friendly ecosystem where there is competition, therefore increasing the frequency of sales and the importance of improving its services? Not to mention the increase of developers that can make games for PC.

Complains because PC has pro consumer things like an open market, promoting choice and competition, makes it sound like a bad thing.........must be a console fanboy.

The whole concept is why PC is better in all ways.

In consoles people have only 1 option and that is the reason of why they can milk their human cattle with excessive prices, pay for a (bad quality) online, no retrocompatibility (or not full in some cases), royalties for developers, limitations for games (not only to run in 1 single device, but also in design concept, censorship, etc, you will notice that all console games feels the same in a certain way, is because all are alike), and of course, the impossibility of open your games or use mods.

It's not the quantity of the people you meet which is important -- it's the quality of the interactions you have with them that makes the difference. It's easy enough to find people on Steam who have similar interests -- just start participating more in the forums for those games that you love. Don't worry about your friend count, because people who take the number as being important, can't be taken seriously. Just participate, don't be so negative, stay away from the flame wars, etc. You'll gradually build up a nice enough list of people that you can play with or chat with. Not everyone will be the kind of person you'll want to hang out with in RL, but at least you'll have some fun and have some interesting conversations, and find fellow like-minded people.

Are you referring to the forum here on GS or the PS Nation website?

What if I told you that not everyone with a PlayStation device uses PS Nation? O_o

There's no one place to meet or acquire game data for any platform. Obviously a good place to start with PC gaming is Steam as each game gets it's own forum and group chat. This website is also a good place to look for people to play games with.

As other have stated I'm really not sure if you're being serious here......

PC gamers are not one community.

The platform has always been so big in terms of game variety that it is split up into categories based on genres and sometimes individual games.

That's what makes a place like Steam great for meeting like-minded people. You are correct -- the PC 'Community' is actually a community of communities, split in many different ways. But that's exactly how Steam is broken up as well. And that's good because it actually makes it easier to find people with similar interests. I'll give you an example.

I kind of like Roguelike games and 4X games and board games. And I'd see the same people replying to me in different forums for each game. And because the Steam community was split, and not too huge, I'd recognize the same names. And that made it really easy for me to find friends. A place like Gamespot which is so diverse -- that's fine for really generic discussions about games, but you are less likely to find people like that in forums like these.

In other words, smaller communities are actually better for making friends. I'm not saying that large diverse communities don't have their place -- they just serve different purposes.

You guys don't get it. Do you know that when all PC gamers come under one service like PSN can improve the service you're using? For example, I like how a game is being reviewed on Steam by players. If some players bought the same game on Amazon or other places, the game doesn't get a fair score. You want to know how many players are playing the game? Then PC gamers must play on one service. It would help the criteria of games which can help their overall evaluation of games. So, when all players gather under one service, Steam services can be improved as they sell more and be more profitable.

PC has a long history of competing services who were all able to host their games on the platform.

As opposed to consoles where the games are all controlled by one company.

Steam is in the center well because it's the biggest platform/store for gaming on PC.

You can't grow bigger then Steam, they've released their own console/steam machines and their own OS.

I use steam, I think it's freaking amazing, and hope it does continue to grow.

However I would never hope that it becomes the only place to buy/review games, healthy competition is always good.

No such thing as PC Nation. PC Universe? Sure.

We have our own System Wars: Intel vs AMD, Windows vs Linux vs OSX, AMD vs Nvidia, desktop PC vs laptop, etc. ;)

I have more friends to play PC games than I do consoles. Most gamers I know have at least some indie games on Steam. Mix that with a few other platforms like BattleNet or GoG and you've got yourself some good competition, which seems to do a good job at keeping prices low.
