RAM will not make you processor go any faster. The processors speed is limited to it's clock speed and the speed of the motherboard. RAM can help loading times for games/applications and it also helps reduce hard drive swapping (when Windows starts running out of memory it uses the hard drive as RAM and thus slows down the PC).

i think he meant run the game faster? some games take advantage of extra ram. i heard crysis only uses up to 1gb of ram, so having an extra gig of ram for that game doesn't help. on the other hand, i heard that wic (maybe it was another game?) uses up to 2gb of ram. so depends on the game. but most games these days require at least 1 gb of ram to run smoothly.

I'm afraid RAM does not secure the CPU in place any more firmly, no.

Having tried Crysis on three different test beds, I'd say it definitely benefits from the extra RAM, at least up to two gigs. You can go from being able to use some settings on high/very high, forced down to medium, by reducing your RAM from 2 to 1 gigs. It can also depend on what type of RAM you're talking about.

ok, so maybe not crysis. but every game has a limit to how much ram it uses. anything over that limit, and it's just wasted ram.

That's not true. All games have extremely rapid alternations between spikes and troughs in their RAM usage, what you see in the processes isn't a constant. It's always good to have more RAM than is necessary to some degree, so these spikes don't hit the ceiling as often or ever, as they cause slight hitches that can slow the loading of everything else down.

ram doesn't effect the processer. ram is used for in other words talking to your mouse and keyboard. so without ram, your computer is like an autistic kid, with no fingers. ram is also memory so when you watch a movie or play a game it stores it t make it go faster. if you wanna faster procceser your gonna need to buy a better one. And also you've put this topic in the wrong section it's supose to be in the pc hardware discussion.

I really don't understand how someone could actually title the topic like that. That is beyond anything I've seen in a while. lol, I don't know why people bother answering his incoherent question!

Since this thread isn't about PC or Mac Games, it belongs in PC Hardware Discussion. :)
