So I read in a review that Spore contains malware. Is this true?
Also, if it turns out that it doesn't is Spore worth getting? If it's exactly like the creature creater then screw it no spore for me lol.

SecuROM is not exactly malware. It's just a DRM method that is a little more obtrusive the way EA is employing it (and Spore is not the first game to use this method). Basically, all it does is allow you to authenticate the game's install three times. After the third install, you have to contact EA customer support to reauthenticate. If you want more specifics, just search the forums for Spore (or Mass Effect) DRM.
Oh, and I'm having a blast with the game. It's not ALL like the Spore Creature Creator. The only thing is that the space game is harder than the other parts of the game (mostly because I've been getting extorted by 3-4 alien races at the same time for about 300,000 credits each)
Sounds like someone's been reading their video game reviews on Amazon.com.Locke562
Umm no I don't. Here's the link http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/spore/player_review.html?id=605151&tag=readerreviews;continue

Psshh, That's nothing. Check this out http://www.amazon.com/Spore-Mac/dp/B000FKBCX4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1221184555&sr=8-1
:P
Does Spore contain malware? Yes, I'd call securom malware. Not only does it install on your computer without ever telling you, getting rid of it is not easy* and it can hurt your computer if you're unlucky
*Normal malware is actually easier to get rid of than securom
id have to advise everyone to think carefully before installing any newer EA game, or any other brand that uses secrom. and id also highly recommend reading all the reviews on spore before considering buying it.machiavell8x8honestly, if you're boycotting any brand that uses securom, you're just about boycotting mainstream PC gaming as a whole. that instantly wipes out 2K, THQ, EA, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard. boycotting the specific triggers that bioshock, mass effect, alone in the dark and spore are using would be another story, though.

Why on earth would anybody buy these games?
It's like willingly submitting to a body search when leaving a store because the management has declared all customers to be thiefs.

because it's nothing like a cavity search - it's like walking through the sensor tag gates for most people, not a body search. it's pretty well an invisible process and unobtrusive for most of us. the number of people that DON'T know which games use securom are a pretty effective proof of that, we have to be told. so similar to current copy protection, occasionally the sensor alarms go off when they shouldn't, and it's a pain, but we don't refuse to shop at the stores for deciding we're all thieves and using the alarms. :) and just like copy protection, it's pretty trivial for people that know what they're doing to get around it. nordstrom doesn't use them, though. they just have a badass security force that DOES watch your every move instead. :P they're seriously ninjas.I'm not a kid.
But yea, I was somewhat incorrect in my initial post.
You don't actual "buy" spore. You lease it from the company. That is why you get 3 installs. That is why they have invasive copyright protect. And that is why you get to pay the folks for the "priviledge" of playing their game.
Sorry, there are far too many things I can do with the litterally thousands of dollars of entertainment funds which I dispense per year then being treated like a criminal, having spyware put on my computer and knowing full well that the game actually isn't mine.
These folks think these schemes are making them money, while, at least from my point of view, the money I spend on electronic games has plunged.
It's all very messy isn't it? Much easier for folks like Microsoft to buy out PC game producers and just do away with the sector altogether and push everybody onto their X-Box.

My boss says that to all of the Leadership team where I work once he starts a meeting.. "Hey kids". The youngest of us is 28, so don't take it personally. It's just an expression.

There are currently 2016 1 star ratings on this entry, and only about 200 collectively giving it any other rating! That's sad... I'm really hoping this will be a wake up call for EA...
Why would it be a wake up call? According to Amazon 80% of those people bought the game anyways haha. They just wanted to do some belly aching...
This kind of DRM stinks though...Just found out Sacred 2 will use the same kind of DRM, except it will only have 2 install limit...YIKES!
*edit*
NVM...Sacred 2's DRM works a bit different...UNLIMITED INSTALLS, but only 2 active at any time. Since I only have two computers, that works for me.
