Well, in my other computer, I have an X1650 PRO card and Oblivion crashes whenever you try and exit the game. This does not really matter as long as you save though.

Yes you will. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and as I said, so far there have been no problems except the game crashes whenever you try and exit it. Sorry I did not make it clear that I was using Vista in my first post :D

I'm sorry but don't comment about compatibility problems you don't have. I know many people have had problems with Vista and FEAR and NFS: Carbon seem to mentioned a bit but Oblivion works fine. Oblivion didn't crash when I exited it although I haven't tried it out on my Vista comp for almost a month since I tested it out for a few days.

Yes, Oblivion works in Vista. I'm running Vista 64 on an 8800GTX 768 Superclocked EVGA with an AMD Opteron 165 1.8ghz overclocked to 2.7 with 1 gig of PC533 RAM.

Although it works, I do get better performance in this partiticular game out of XP using the same configuration. Your results may vary from mine.

the crash on exit bug is part of the game.  I have XP and the game crashes when i close it also.  doesn't matter, since you're closing the game anyway and I've never had it crash for any other reason.

It's mainly on the CPU that the GPU depends upon. But I agree. So much GPU horsepower and only 1 GB of RAM.

Overall, Oblivion works fine with Vista. Not sure about Vista 64-bit though.

The OS doesn't make any difference on Oblivion performance, the usage of good drivers, a good GPU, CPU and enough RAM is what makes the difference.

RAM tends to have an impact on Oblivion performance more than other games though.

Actually not, it's more the VRAM and entire graphics card that makes the difference, not the CPU, because we have seen some good video's already with AI and collision glitches, so that part isn't what you should focus on.

I'm running dual boots on all three of my gaming rigs and the results are the same in each. Oblivion chugs in Vista, as do a few other titles I own like X3 and Stalker.

To the other question, this is an overclocked box. I have a hard time keeping it stable with four sticks of PC533 in there instead of two.

I also have practically the same 3D performance using Vista and without.

I'm hoping it works too, when i get vista in a month ;) I've got a crashing problemn with xp, though. I can't run xfire and oblivion at the same time, or it will crash about 10 mins into the game..any chance there's a patch?

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm running 64 Ultimate on all my boxes. While I'm certainly willing to conceed that it may be something as simple as a driver issue (in the case of X3 specifically I'm leaning towards the drivers for my X-Fi), I -do- happen to be running the latest and greatest in Vista 64 drivers for every piece of hardware I've got.

Even if my issue is driver related, in my case there is no fix available.
