I've heard different opinions. Does anyone know for sure, or even experience with it?

Is your cpu slower when your cpu fan runs faster ?

No it doesn't affect performance in any way, the fix isn't different than changing the fan speed in Rivatuner or Ati Tray Tools.

so then there's really no need to buy extra cooling? especially since I won't be overclocking..

you have ZERO reason to upgrade the stock cooler, unless you like wasting money, in which case you can mail it to me. Suggested fan speed range: 40-55%. Anything over 55% is noticibly audible.

I'm sure that an aftermarket cooler could potentially yield lower temps, but it isn't necessary or worthwhile, even for OC'ing. At least as far as air cooling goes :D

HuH?
How about good temps at inaudible decibel levels?
What about OCs past current OverDrive options?
What about voltmods?

There are lots of reasons for aftermarket coolers, just because your situation doesn't include one doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile...

quite frankly i'm used to my computer sounding like a rocket, so i don't need inaudible decibel levels. it really doesn't seem like i would need anything extra.
