Not much if upgrade from a Core 2 Quad CPU. However, dual graphic cards are supposed to have improved performances with i7. I can't say I experienced this due to the fact I'm only running with 1 GTX 285.
GPU: %55
CPU: %40
RAM: %5
GPU is by far the most important for gaming now-a-days. CPUs are needed if you do more than game (like I do) and when games start to become multithreaded/multicored more than the CPU will take more of the work away. Ram, well you need it, but 2gb of ram can still go a long way in this day and age.
With the i7's price tag, it is not worth the small increase in fraps. Just stick to dual cores (around 3.2Ghz), and you will not see a huge difference with the i7's.

Will there be a time in the near future that developers utilize the i7 making it worth it? I bet by then I would probably need a new computer anyways.

Yes, but not in the current i7's life time. People forget that developers will makes games for the largest audience. I would say 1% of all PC gamers even have i7's... Thus you won't see a game requiring it in the current i7's life time. Dual cores are still the most popular CPU and will stay that way for a few years to come. Game making is a business. Cryteck made the mistake of making a game with high requirements. Then they cried that piracy was to blame for not doing so well. The developers that sell millions make games for that largest audience. Take a look at the source engine.. You can run those games extremely well on an old system. Thus your audience is very large which means more $$$. I think it really comes down to this. If you are a gamer, and do no heavy media type activity's. Like if you burn one DVD a month. Get a high clocked dual core. If you are a heavy media freak a quad might be up your ally. Please Log In to post.
