Hi all, Doom 3 BFG edition is 75% off and is £4.99 on Steam. However, the original version of Doom 3 is £3.49. I have played Doom 3 in the past but traded it in after I completed it. I want to buy the game again but cannot decide whether the BFG version is worth it or not on PC.

Original unless you don't mind not using mods. BFG edition doesn't allow you to mod the game sadly.

If your not a mod user than I would say go for it. The graphics/sound are better, it includes the doom 3 expansion, and it also includes doom 1 and 2

Cheers for the replies. It would suck without shadows, I found that to be a real atmospheric touch aswell. Can the original be modded to support 1080p ?

Original, simply for the modding support. Some of the mods out there make the game look great.

Original and mods no doubt, unless of course the BFG version is WAY cheaper or if you dont use mods.

they added shadows back into BFG. at launch it didn't have flashlight shadows (maybe some others?) which they allow you to add back on. BFG is better if you play in 3D or you want the 7 extra levels (that I heard are pretty mediocre)

No. You can turn flashlight shadows on and off. im talking about lighting shadows. like lighting in the game. there is only ambient.

Um there are shadows, I think you need to elaborate.

Everything looks softer and more like the textures in HL1. shadows and lighting arent as apparent or bold. everything seems to be in a fog. And no not because of motion blur. Textures are lower res? Thats what it looks like to me.

There is more ambient lighting in BFG yes, The shadows are softer (but they are still volumetric shadows). But to say there are no shadows is rediculous.
