Well, the atmosphere and storytelling, let alone the artwork in BioShock are far superior, but the action in Doom 3 is better. So it all comes down to what influences your experience more - just sheer action, or atmosphere and story.
I'd say they're both very worthy playing, so just buy one now and when you have anotehr $30 lying around, go for the other.

i didnt like doom 3, the game graphics may be nice the envourment is cool but the gameplay is boring, always the same thing, repeating itself and lots of other annoying things, bioshock is more fun to play imo u can get skills and got more interactive items, tho i wouldnt say bioshock is a great game as well its descent.
Doom 3 + expansion.
The expansion kicks some serious ass.

Doesn't that expansion try to rip-off the gravity gun from HL2? lol.

Doom 3's Grabber works different. First, you can hold an object for only a few seconds, then it spits it out at high speed. Second, you can catch fireballs with it - which leads to some very fun combat.
Third, it was actually a tool used during Doom 3's developement. Instead of building destroyed rooms, the id team built pristine rooms and then used this tool to swing crap around until it looked like a mess. I can't see how an engine feature rips-off a gun in another game. Perhaps if didn't look like a weapon, but like a demonic arm or something (I'm thinking at Trespasser here...) people wouldn't say Doom 3 has stolen HL2's gravity gun.
And fourth, RoE's developement started while Doom 3 wasn't even finished. Nerve Software is across the street from id and they were working at both games simultaneously.
Doom 3 easily. If you hate the game that is ok because you have a quake and doom conversion mod among other ones. So plenty of bang for buck and quality games.Whiteblade999
Whoa, what Quake conversion?
It transforms it in a Quake 1 clone?!
The Hell and the archeological site looked a lot like the original Quake, and they were the best parts of the game IMO.

Both are great games as people are saying (assuming you like FPS). I would say some major differences are:
