Hello guys. So, today I wanted to play Doom 3 (never played it, and I have it here on Steam for a while) but there is no option for 1920x1080 on the resolution options. So what? I have to play on other resolution? Isn't there a way of making it play on 1920x1080

There is a widescreen mod but it stretches the UI. The game wasn't designed for such resolutions. Play it at a lower res with black space on the sides, there should be a GPU driver option for that. That's how I did it this summer and it was great, you won't care about the black space and the game will look great in its native resolution.

Could you teach me to do that? I love PC Gaming, but I don't understand a thing. I don't care fixing these little issues as long as I get to play the game. So, if you could give me a hand here, I would appreciate :)

I can only help if you have a NVIDIA GPU. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, under Display (left panel) go to Adjust desktop size and position. Choose No scaling. If the game ignores the setting, return to the control panel and choose the Override option.

There should be something similar for AMD cards.

Ok, the game ignored the «No scaling» setting. Where is the Override option?

Same place. Override the scaling mode set by games and programs. I'm running the 290.53 driver, maybe you have another version.

You may also toggle between Perform scaling on Display or GPU. Just fiddle with those options, it should work...

You don't need mods, just edit the config file in notepad.

Find DoomConfig.cfg in the game folder, then find these lines

seta r_customHeight "x"

seta r_customWidth "x"

seta r_aspectRatio "x"

If you're running 16:9 (1920x1080), change the aspect ratio number to 1, if 16:10 (1900x1200)then change it to 2.

Did everything as you said and it didn't work. Jesus, I don't even feel like playing Doom anymore, PC Gaming sometimes gets into my nerves.

The game runs great in widescreen resolutions with correct aspect ratio and fov. There's no need to black bars.

Straight out of my Doom config file:

seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"

worked for me:

Wut? The PC in my sig is pretty wimpy compared to the god-rigs many here have. But, yeah. I think I have Doom maxed out at 1080p as far as my video card can take it (Ultra Quality, 16xAA?....I think).

Also, Doom 3 default textures are pretty low-res if I zoom in like we do in the Crysis games.

Looks great in normal view though.

Yeah, you're probably better off going back to console gaming...
