Imagine your a sales manager and want to sell BOTH games to the customer. Give your best points, likes, dislikes whatever about the games.

If you havent played both of them, go ahead and write about one. Im not asking for big answers (of course that would be nice), but no "it sucks/it rocks/best game/etc" without supporting arguements.

Thank you in advance :P

Hello sir! I have two awesome games for you to try out and buy!

First, there is Dawn of War. This is a more traditional RTS set in the Warhammer 40k universe. It has a strong story and background lore to it, and some unique concepts towards resources that goes against the typical "collect a lot of x/y/z resource and build base. Some great things about DoW are:

-Multiple factions, all fairly well balanced
-Thorough singleplayer campaign
-Amazing setting and story; the Warhammer 40k universe is just cool!

Unfortunately, the game is getting a little stale and while most people generally love it, you might not like it yourself. In addition, while the singleplayer is cool the first time there just isnt much of a reason to go back to it.

The second game I have to show you is Sins of a Solar Empire. This game is God, and it gave birth to a divine genre called Real Time 4x. Buy this game, love it, cherish it, and give hours of your life to it. All hail Sins! Now please excuse me while I sacrifice a hundred bulls and a virgin to the developers.

Here I go!

Sins:

First off the sheer size of the theatre of war is amazing. Warping fleets of over a hindred ships across a few solar systems to combat the enemy really give you a sense of grandeur. A number of other aspects of the game contribute to the overall warm fuzzy feeling of galactic conquest.

The combination of the tax system for earning credits and the mining and trading to obtain crystal and metal allows for more involvement in resource management. Contently buying and selling resource so you have enough of what you need for your next phase of development and a fun Sim City/Tycoonish feel to the game. The desire for resources is also great motivation to expand your empire, further showcasing the grand scale this game is modeled in.

Tech trees for advancing your society and fleet command as well as your miltary adds a nice bit of variety. A lot of gamers fall into a rut of what steps to take along the tech tree in any given game, which in my eyes, becomes a bit monotonous after time. The extra venues of investment in Sins helps liven up the build order and keeps things fresh.

The set number of tactical and logistical slots each planet has for building can be a bit of an annoyance, but again it serves the purpose of spurring you to expand your empire. A personal knit-pick of mine is that some of the tactical buildings belong in the logistic section and vice-versa, but that's hardly a glaring flaw.

Pirate raid are really annoying. It's easy enough to raise another players bounty at the last second so they take the heat of the next attack(especially if it's a computer player) so the pirates presence in the galaxy really just boils down to a occasional drain of credits and a few sections of space you should avoid traveling through. An annoyance more than anything else really.

No story mode! -10 points!

Just when you think you've won you realize that the enemy has another bas ein some region of the galaxy that you didn't even know existed. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your mood.

I could go on.... but I don't want to.

DoW:

A variety of colorful(to say the least) races. A player can be sure to find at least one faction they can really get behind. (Tau Empire for me). The races are similar enough that choosing any one will give you a good idea on how to play as any of the others, but varied enough that as you get more advanced you will find interesting techniques and tricks only that faction can use.

Simple two resource system (requisition and energy) make it simple to keep track of what you have and need. And the system of using strategic points to gain requisition helps force you to get out and about to explore the map and expand.

Moral system adds nice micromanagement element to combat. Keeping each squad doing what it's meant to do and proper use of unit abilities are essential to keeping your units in the fighting spirit.

Each races super unit is very satisfying to unleash, but the rate at which these super units are replaced is not entirely balanced across the board.

Necrons are a bit overpowered I think. A personal gripe of mine.

In a large scale battle Hero units are, for the most part, insignificant. While in the early stages of a game, an enemy commander showing up can mean your complete downfall. (I'm not sure if this is good or bad.)

I might add more later.

In Sins, I like the scale, the value (long game for 30 bucks), the fun factor, and the fact that its a new genre (i am not sure, ive heard the term RT4X before Sins but never heard it applied to a game, correct me if I am wrong).

Dawn of War is just a cool, brutal, traditional RTS. I like the attitude it has. I know thats not a good reason for liking a game but its why I liked it. I will be honest, tho...as a person who doesnt play strategy games online, it was a poor choice for singleplayer.

Happy to contribute. If you don't mind me asking, why did you make this thread? Simply for the sake of conversation, or will you be using this input for something?

I got a new comp almost a month ago. I installed all games I had to rerun them for a smooth ride. Ex: Hellgate, Orange Box, Savage 2 etc etc. (Mostly the recent ones). I finally decided to test out Company of Heroes demo [original one], and LOVED it. So I will be stopping by Best Buy to get the Gold Edition, and also Vampire: Bloodlines (And MAYBE Jade Special Edition).

The reason for DoW and Sins topic is that I was also considering to buy these two. I bought WH40k and Winter Assault on the first week of their release. While it is a great game, its not something that I would love and call my favorite. I wanted to see if I should continue on with Dark Crusade and Soulstorm. Sins, well simply because everyone praises it, and I always loved games that made gameplay refreshing.

Then I'd like to give a piece of advice. If you enjoy the single player campaign of RTS games, to a significant degree, then continuing the the Dawn of War expansions might be more worth your while. Dark Crusade isn't too story heavy. Instead of a traditional linear campaign it has a world conquest mode where you capture territory and eliminate the other races one by one. At the start/end of a campaign and after each race is defeated you get a nice little blurb about the battle(s) and some neat tidbits of info on the commanders, but that's about it.(If you have video game OCD like me then completing the conquest with all factions is pretty fun.) Not a thick plot by any means. I'm not sure about Soulstorm. I havn't picked it up yet, but I think it follows the same system. The two expansions don't offer too much of a story, but it's much more than what Sins gives.

If the story of RTS games arn't an important factor to you then disregard this.

Thanks for advice. I actually do prefer single player right now, due to some [long story] internet problems with old 2Wire and Vista.
