The ETW specs are not that high, DoW 2 will be more acesserble, but long term ETW has far more gameplay, and there will be some great mods for it. An ETW demo should be out soon, so you could use that for aditional info. Have you played a Total War game before?
My main advice is ETW will have more gameplay, and will be more fun, but it will be a little more complex than DoW 2.

DOW2 looks good, but Empire will blow every other game completely out of the water. Wait for Empire.
I'm getting both.
Frankly get DoW2 for the RPG and gear collection aspect. Get Empire for the rest.
From the DoW2 beta I've managed to conlude that it's a great looking game with top notch visuals and effects, but the gameplay is quite shallow. Only 4 races is quite limited, especially when I hate 2 of them. The small maps and the repeating gameplay aspect in the singleplayer of capturing 3 important strategic points (2 optional but contain loot!) and then a final boss fight will not grip me for long enough. I've gotten to the point now where the beta just doesn't interest me anymore.
Empire will have the usual vast world map, allowing you to conquer countries at your will, with a spanking new engine. The era they chose is great too, as the sea warfare was hitting its peak at this time and the standardisation of gunpowder means the land battles can have serious tactical depth to them. The gameplay in any Total War game will last you WEEKS, unlike DoW2 which will take you a handful of days. The singleplayer aspect here will be as deep as an ocean, with world trade, domination, spying, assassinations, armies, you name it, with hugely beefed up real time combat.
DoW2 is for the fans and those with lots of cash. It won't last you long so it provides terrible value for money, and the main reason why I loved DoW games was because of Chaos...they made the game so gorey and dark, they added the mystery and generated the overall feel of the games. Without them the title doesn't mean jack, this is what turned me off in the end. Empire will offer BUCKETS of replay, I'm talking months of gameplay time from this one title, and the gameplay will be more refined and sharpened, so it's an undeniable purchase for not just franchise fans...but for RTS fans in general.
Very well said, you sir have ultimately convinced me to get E:TW.Frankly get DoW2 for the RPG and gear collection aspect. Get Empire for the rest.

You're welcome! :D
Relic is making the exact same mistakes they have been doing sense Homeworld.. Seriously wth is this, you would think they woudl LEARN from this.. 7 skirmish maps? 2 player or 6 player games only? Limited game modes? And you wonder why these games usually never have a huge fanbase for online player slate in its career.. BECAUSE OF LACK of options.. The gameplay it self doesn't even have that many options.. I am a fan of the series but damn, when you see games as old as Starcraft have more overall options in gameplay than a game being released in 2009.. There is a problem..sSubZerOo
yeah, it's not like there are in Sc, WC3 or any other RTS out there only 3-4 maps played, but they are all used
oh wait...
who ever complains about there only being 7 maps has probably never played a RTS game in MP.

Sorry but lack of options is never a good thing.starwarsgeek112
too much money and time wasted on 20 crappy maps that the player might not even like isn't the best thing either. Maps for dow2 and coh need quite some more time and with it money to be made than maps for other rts games.
and try to remember that not every developer got a 11 million MMO cash cow and with it acces to unlimited budged
I'd rather have relic doing what they curently have planed. Releasing free maps based on player feedback as dlc instead of releasing 20 at the begining of which only 3-4 will be played anyway
Can't say anything about empire total war. I honesly never liked those kind of strategy games like Rome etc. I find them a bit boring and hard to get into.
I think Dawn of War 2 is awesome and lots of fun to play. Imagine playing through the campaign with a friend.

Change that its actually only 5, so basically the beta was the full multiplayer.Empire, no question. The only game I will ever play from Relic is CoH. They really dropped the ball on DoW and the CoH expansions.Whiteblade999How did they drop the bar in the expansions? All they did was add more content with new weather effects? I guess giving long time CoH fans what we want was a bad idea.

Except that the current 1v1 beta maps are just plain bad and the 3v3 maps are just meh. I wouldn't mind a few good maps but instead they chose to release a few poor ones. None of the 1v1 maps are as good as the CoH ones and don't come close to the fun of Angoville. The game does not even have a map editor and is a step back modding wise from the original.

Basically the complaints to the CoH expansion was that it added one faction that still is considered overpowered and one faction that made the game way to campy. Some people also don't much care for the tactics the expansion created, such as blob tactics.

no it's 7, there are 2 more maps in the day 0 patch
more importantly the free dlc will include more maps and i assume we will see a map editor at some point allowing for legions of more player made goodies. i havent played any total wars since shogun: total war (which was mediocre from my point of view) and if its simple a rehashment of that game with an attention to more conventional units i wont be buying it. the game is fun dont get me wrong but if i want to lay siege and throw comically large armies at oneanother ill play
lords of the realm III
