Pros- Free.
Cons- Too many to mention
1)Patches never come out for digital version
2)Zero support on the site you downloaded it from, it's"not their game."
3)If you are referring to piracy- prosecution, irritable gamespot staff, and aggrivated media companies that control gamespot.
Assuming you mean legally downloading games off the internet
The pros are:
It's a convenience to never have to actually go and physically buy the game.
You can never lose your copy, or have the game become unplayable due to disc damage.
You will not have (physical) storage space issues, having to deal with boxes everywhere.
Disc-free gaming.
It's usually cheaper.
You get to support developers, instead of a large chunk of your cash going to the store and the publisher.
The cons are:
You don't get a box. THis may not bother you, but I like having something I can physically hold as proof of ownership. I like the new game smell of tearing off the plastic wrap and cracking open the box for the first time, gently caressing that untouched disc... so innocent... mmmm...
Er. And also you may have to use specific patches which you don't necessarily want to use.
You may have some auto-updater that is awkward to avoid, that you may not want to use.
I think for the most part, the good outweighs the bad, and if it's the direction PC gaming is going, I can't complain. If you meant illegally downloading games off the internet, the pros are that it's free and the cons are that you're damaging the industry, so when there's no PC developers left because they all moved to the consoles, it'll be your fault. Your fault.
