I think i need to update because my external hard drive and flash drive are reading. When i plug them in it says (device not reconized)

That's Amazing! What are they reading now? I myself like Kryton, but seeing as how harddrives are so serious ( you know,all 0's and 1's) I'd suggest some form of text books, maybe math. Device not recognized? Well dah, they're reading, I wouldn't respond either...sheesshh.

Is a USB problem???, the portable hard drive and the flash memory if that is the problem go to your mainboard manufacturer and download the drivers for it but could be a problem with the ports.

the weird thing is that my usb mouse and joy stick works, not flash drives and external hard drives.

DONT use a driver program unless you know its clean,,,most of them are just carrying spyware and virus's.

Try going into device manager and finding the device that is not recognized. Right click and "uninstall", this should force Windows tolook for a new driver next time it's plugged in. I think my flash drive did something like that once and that's how I went about fixing it.
