Good to see someone has the balls to say how they feel about this ridiculous crap. I had as many games sitting on my shelf next to my PC, but now that collection is a whole lot smaller because I'm sick and tired of games not being recognised in drives, etc. That's excatly what happened to me with a few games. And of course I had problems with DVD drives mysteriously failing.

So I know how pissed off this guy is, and he's right. The people who pay for the games are getting screwed over, not those who pirate them.

The whole DRM/copy protection thing is now working against legitimate consumers, and that's plain wrong. I've spent a good few thousand quid on games over the past 20 years, and I'm not willing to waste my money any longer on products that are basically broken as designed, or that force me to modify PC hardware and software just to get them to run.

Just like that guy I don't support or advocate piracy, but neither will I support restrictive DRM or malware being installed on my PC any longer. I hit my breaking point with my last drive failure.

Sure, lots of people don't have these problems and can play without any hassle. But there are those of us who do have these kinds of problems, and for what reason? Do our PCs meet the system requirements printed on the box? Absolutely. Therefore the product should work. No jumping through hoops or tearing your hair out or trying to use umpteen workarounds, and getting a lot of bad advice from tech support who couldn't really care less about your problem. They already have your money.

So yeah, that guy has my sympathy.

I totally agree with this video. My Crysis wouldn't start up after 1.2 and I also had to download a crack to get my game that I legally own to work!

Is it just me, or this dude looks like Kane?

I love the way he's talking:P

StarForce crapped on my computer two years ago. It deleted the Windows user directory, including the desktop and My Documents:)

Some people think that people like you and others (including me) are collateral damage. Supposedly, the end justifies the means. Even though copy protection and DRM can give problems, it's still worth it according to some people. But if you look at the most extreme form of copy protection that is currently out now, the Mass Effect protection, you'll see that at best it will delay the pirates for one week and punish the legitimate customers for the rest of their lives.

The moral of the story is: It's not worth it.

I agree.. however because it links to a site you can get no cd cracks you might want to get rid of the link since GS dont like that sort of thing.. even though its for a legit reason.. GS still doesn't like it. You also might want to put a warning in your post for the language.

I agree with the video 100%.. Its been well known for a long time now and as time goes on it only gets worse for us that buy the game.

Copyright protection can hit legit customers. I myself have been hit twice, the most recent being Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and it's not the drive because it's a brand new one.

Anything these companies create a cracker can remove, even the latest EA protection has been cracked.

I guess it's a necessary evil but publishers need to make sure the protection actually works and if it doesn't then legit customers need to be helped to get it working.

Although I agree with his general message (don't we all), I think he could have been a little more...civil about it.

Wow, he's angry. Can't say I've ever been in such a rage over games. Well, Cod 2, lol. But that's because it was so ****ing hard at times.

I agree with this guy, but if he wants to send a message to the publishers, he should have made a video that is a little more diplomatic and calm. If I was a dev, I'd click "close" after the first few ****s.

the guy is so pissed of that if soemthing similiar hadn't happened to me personally it would have been pretty funny. While i generally apply cracks to the game so that i have to put in the cd , but it's really discouraging if someone who bought the game has to apply a crack even if he doesn't wants to

i agree. there are better ways of communicating than swearing every sentence and screaming all the time. you can't take a guy seriously when he comes across as being immature and childish.

i never said he wasn't right. i just think he can communicate more effectively, even if frustrated. screaming and swearing rarely get anything accomplished in the business world.

Agreed, about the underlined words: That's what 8 year olds do to prove their point. If you want someone to take you seriously, don't act like a child.

Spread the message:
http://digg.com/pc_games/How_anti_piracy_screws_over_people_who_buy_PC_games

I've been a victim of idiotic anti-piracy measures with BioShock, and I am still bitter about that. If I paid for the damn game, it better work. Anti-piracy should not prevent me from playing a legitimately purchased game.

wow that guys maaad, and rightly so i guess...i totally agree with him...

devs need to realise that if they make great games they will sell, either that or use steam as that seems to work pretty well for all involved

Yeah.. sort of what I was talking about with RobertBowen a month back - Given the choice between developing + releasing big-budget PC titles with DRM of some kind or releasing with no DRM at all... most of the big publishers at this point in time would prefer to simply not spend the money on the PC anymore. That perspective might change over time, but it'll take a little while, and requires a different mindset towards the PC (like we'd get more Battlefield Heroes-style titles instead of Battlefield 3, as 3's too $$$)

It is a youtube url. Everyone should know that it is an external link not related to GameSpot in any way, moderation against this link should not take place as the moderated content would be a link within a link. That would be the equivalent of moderating my post because the youtube comments were full of racial slurs.

The best way to fight this is to only buy bargain bin games. Wait until the games hit $9.99 or $19.99 at most. It will send a message to the big game publishers and you don't have to give up PC games.

Of course make exceptions for games with reasonable copy protection, or none such as Stardock games.

Serria are you listening? I just bought Swat 4 and the stupid securom won't play nice in my drive. You pay good money for a game only to have to troubleshoot it before you get the chance to play. DRM is like buying a car that you know is broken before you walk off the car lot. It needs to go. Now.

Yeah, that guy in the video used to have an account on YouTube called 'Armake21' before it was shut down for some reason. He was popular for his "angry gamer reviews" (they weren't AVGN ripoffs though, but some people unfairly labeled them as that) among other things.

swat 4 was iirc Vivendi, who just kinda bought/merged with Activision.. i don't think Sierra's existed as an independent brand for a while :(
