[QUOTE="LordEC911"]9800GT is a 8800GT.
There might be some small differences though...qman101
It is? O_O
Never heard news of that.
your thinking of the 9600
HD 4870 - $310
GTX 260 - $330
Dual 9600gt(wtf 9800gt?) - $280ish
HD 4870 > GTX 260. ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-4870,1964.html )
SLI(or crossfire) = Pain in the ass.
HD 4870 ftw.
EDIT: "The bottom line: Though it's faster by an average of 6% (and in the majority of our tests) than the GeForce GTX 260, it sells for $299 – $150 less than the competing Nvidia card! Even the top-end card from Nvidia, the GeForce GTX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gore-Tex 280 – souped up with more transistors, twice as much memory and higher clock speeds – is not that far ahead. It showed only 13% better performance than the Radeon HD 4870, though it costs twice as much."
The 9800 GT is just going to be a the 8800 GT with a new name and a higher price tag. Waste of money, even if in SLI.
I would personally recommend the HD 4870, but the thing is come August when the HD 4870x2 is coming out, Nvidia is cutting the GTX 260 price down to $222...not bad at all considering that it's performance is only slightly below the HD 4870.
If you are impatient, just spend the money on the HD 4870 now, it IS a better card after all. But, if you are in no rush, you should probably wait for the GTX 260 and its lower price.
[QUOTE="artiedeadat40"]4870 no contest then you wont have to deal with those nvidia chipsets.albi321^this
Found this out the hard way, stuck with my crappy 650i board... About to pull the trigger on a HD4870, just waiting for nvidia's price drop to shake out.
GTx 260 cost $330...to misinforming people...The 9800 GT is just going to be a the 8800 GT with a new name and a higher price tag. Waste of money, even if in SLI.

9800 GTX: $165 ($199)

GTX 280: $392 ($499)
(Prices in parentheses are target selling prices.)

Please show me a link where any reputable site said that the 9800GT is going to be twice as fast as an 8800GT.
The GTX280 isn't even twice as fast....

The GTX 280 is not even twice as fast as the 8800GT. If you're talking about the 9800GTX+, the HD4850 already beats it. When the 9800GTX+ is faster than the HD4850, it's only by 1-3 fps, but when the HD4850 is faster, the margin is higher.

They are just making stuff up....
At the very best, the 9800GT is a 55nm 8800GT with slightly higherclocks.
The specs will NOT be double in anything.

No it is not. I hate when people say so. I have changed an 8800GT to 9800 and the performance is much better, it is a lot less hot and wants less power. Shaddap! :D
Isn't kinda pointless to bump a year old thread?[QUOTE="Slig0"]

Yeah, I'm going to wait 8 months for your explanation, buddy. Notice the date on my post? Way to go again.

I'm sorry for being ignorant on the fact that I can't read your mind and figure out why you revive a thread. >_>

I tell you, someone was pretty smart and posted a message while instantly deleting it which placed the thread on the front page. Since I never read dates (my bad), I was naive and posted a response. Since I was absent while you posted your necromancer comment I forgot about the thread. Now it was revived again, and since I didn't remember when did I make that post, I referred to yours thinking it was recent. And somebody else revived it now, not me.
Slig0
I think we can let this thread R.I.P now...
