Alright so right now i have Xp pro (32bit) and i want to get Win 7 Rc (64bit). I know how to download it, but what im wondering is... Is there a way to install it and have all my files transfered without having to use something like a external HD. Specifically, i mean, is there a way to install win7, run it and see my files there. I heard Dual Boot (not completely sure) would do the job. What are the adv's and Disadv's of that and how do i do it.

~ Thanks

Go to disk management create another partition 40gb at least and burn windows 7 on disc then install, make sure to select the new volume you just made and install it there, no need to back up your stuff. You will have dual booting with Xp and 7.

If you dual boot, you'll have access to both XP and 7. When you start the computer up, you will be given a choice between which one you want to load.

But to dual boot, you need another partition to install Windows 7 onto. This can be another physical hard drive in your computer, or an area of a hard drive which is partitioned into its own space, and then use as though it were another drive.

If you have another physical hard drive or partition ready to go, it's just a matter of installing Windows 7 onto that drive or partition. It will set up the dual boot automatically. If you don't already have one, you need to set one up.

one problem I've experienced with my dual boot, windows vista x64 and windows 7 x64, is that for some reason windows 7 wont see my other hard drive, i have it on two separate hdd's, one 250gb and one 750gb, both work fine and i can see all of my windows 7 files and the hard drive if i boot into vista, but for some reason windows 7 fails to recognize the other disk, I'm not sure why, it could be that it doesn't like that it has it's own OS on it or it could be that windows doesn't have a driver for that specific western digital model, i don't see how that could be the case though, but other than that it works fine, so hopefully you have better luck than i did.

I would make the new partition about 60gb from your main drive.

I chose to partition 100gb for Win 7, because I wanted to test games on it, and games are usually 6gb+ each.

Min spec.

You will need to be equipped with a PC containing a 1 GHzprocessorand 1GB of RAM, 128MB of DX9 supporting graphics and at least 16GB drive space for 32-bit, and 20gb space for 64-bit, but it doesn't really take up that much space.
