Hiya!

I've had my comp for a while now and I want to double the display and pick up another monitor. I have both a VGA and a DVI output, but from what I can tell, they are both on the motherboard, neither on the graphics cards. I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere that tells me if I can support dual monitors... I would really appreciate some help! Thank you!

He's probably using an HDTV like I am. Some don't have DVI like the HDTV I'm using. The only choices are VGA and HDMI.

Yeah that's just it. Regardless, I have one DVI and VGA so I'll either need one of each or a converter. Thanks for the help guys! Interesting side note,jun_aka_pekto, you helped me pick out this computer about a year ago. Hahahaha, I'm happy to say that it's still working awesome!

I can't remember the specs. You'll need to let us know what PC connectors are on the monitor and the video card (not the motherboard). If they're dual DVI, just buy a second monitor with DVI. Your monitors should be hooked up to the video card ports not the motherboard's.

VGA is okay. But from my own experiences, VGA is prone to interference. You'll sometimes see "waves" of electronic noise onscreen especially when there's a big area of dark colors. That happens when the VGA cable is overlapped by other cords/cables. I had to ensure my VGA cable isn't covered by the other cables.

I like symmetrical. So, if I was doing dual monitor, I'd have two identical HDTVs.

If your video card have dual DVI only and your HDTVs only have VGA, you'll need two DVI-VGA adapters. They're not expensive.

Yeah, which is what I would assume. However, my video card (sorry i said mb earlier) has a DVI and a VGA. There isn't 2 of either. So I'm wondering if that means it still supports dual monitors, or if it just outputs to one connector, the one that is in use?

Video cards will output to every connector they have regardless of the type. My video card has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, and 1 DisplayPort. I can hook up a display to each and output an image on each port at the same time.

Each port has its own DAC and consumes roughly 10 megabytes of video memory. Even a budget video card from 1995 with multiple ports will do multiple monitors.

You're fine.

The connection from the card VGA port to the HDTV with VGA is staightforward. If you have a 2nd HDTV similar to the first (with VGA only), then you'll need a DVI-VGA adapter. I'm surprised your video card doesn't have one.

Otherwise, if your second HDTV/monitor have DVI, just go with a DVI cable.
