I have decided to upgrade my motherboard, which means I need to upgrade some other stuff along with it. So I am going to go with Intel for my processor, but I am undecided on going with a Dual Core or a Quad Core. I heard quad cores have their problems, so I have been holding back. What do you guys think I should go with, and I am still in the dark about some pros and cons of each.

They're both about equal in price, so go quad. It'll be much more future proof. Especially for someone like me, who only upgrades every 3-4 years...

Near enough but it's surprising how many people still recommend a dual over a quad. I bet it won't be long before we hear them on this thread too.

Quad!!! DO IT!!

q6600 is the hot price point right now, best bang for the buck.

I have one and it is VERY nice.

That's a nice one, but the Q9450 has 12mb of L2 cache, just like the $1500 Extreme edition. And it's only $50 more than the Q9300.

in theory, but not in pratise, plus a quad of the same speed as the dual costs way more. bascily for gaming duals are best but for video or multitasking quads are better value since video apps support quads unlike games which still can't max out duals.

but almost twice as much as the e8200 for less frames in games and 6mb for 2 cores> 6mb cache for 4 cores. the reality is no game runs better on a quad than dual except maybe sup com and or or two others. quad have been put ages now and still have very little support in games. go dual now then get a faster quad later and it will cost you less than buying a decent future proof quad now

Quad if you don't plan to build another system in the next year. Dual if you're just waiting to build a future Nehalem rig in 2009. My best advice. Mind you, whichever way you go, you should really try to get a Penryn chip...either dual, or quad...if you have the means... ;)
