I'm just curious as to what type of perfomance you could expect from that graphics card setup (Dual SLI Nvidia GeForce GTS 240). I can't find much information on the card by itself, but I have many people saying that it is an overclocked version of the 9800 GT, which is the rebranded 8800GTX, or something like that. I'm confused as to all the rebranding from Nvidia. I'd also appreciate if someone could give me the ATI card that would be almost equal to this card.

[QUOTE="MonsieurX"]Dual 4830 would be about the sameravenguard90

Err...no. 4830 matches the 9800 GT. A GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX, which has the 4850 as its competition. Hence, dual 4850's would be the same.

He's asking for GTS 240 ;)

i guess you mean the gts 250?you'd get good performance from sli at high resolutions with that setup,and yes it's a rebranded 9800gtx.a 4850 from ati would give about the same performance

Well I'm customizing from Dell, which I posted on these forums about a week or so ago and received a lot of help on what parts to buy, despite everyone telling me to build a system, but I decided against that. Last night while researching the GTS 240, I did see that they were "OEM," but I'm not entirely sure on what that means.

I was also curious that with SLI, if the GTS 240 has 1GB, if I use SLI does the memory stack to 2GB because I have heard yes and no to this answer so I have no clue on what the true answer is.

One last question I promise, would a Dual SLI GTS 240 beat a single GTS 250 in performance? Thank you very much to all who posted to help me.

Yeah, it'll have more performance than a single GTS 250 by a significant margin.

Single card solutions are always more desirable over multi-gpu setups.

The answer to this question is NO. When you have 2 cards in SLI (or Crossfire), the effective memory is only that of 1 of the cards. The way SLI works is that each card has the same identical data in it's memory at the same time. There is a physical link (SLI bridge) that attaches the 2 cards together, so they can efficiently communicate with each other and keep track of which GPU/set of memory is doing to work for each frame (or each half of the screen, etc... there are several different methods used in SLI to divide the workload between the cards).

The bottom line is that with SLI, you get the benefits of 2 GPUs, but only the memory from 1 of them. My advice is that the only logical time to use a multiple video card setup is when it costs less and gives you equal or better performance than 1 higher-end GPU.

If 2 x GTS 240 cards are AS or More powerful, AND less expensive than 1 GTX 285 (for example), then SLI-ing the lower-end cards makes sense. But if the higher-end card is less expensive than the 2 lower-end cards combined, and performs at least as well, it makes sense to get the 1 higher-end card. That way you save the possibility to get another one of the higher-end cards for SLI later on (or Crossfire with ATI cards).

dont build from dell cyberpowerpc.com or ibuypower.com have are better for gaming pre-builts.

Yup...I just got a Dell with GTS240. Runs Crysis on high settings without a glitch. Got an i7 with 8GB DDR3 too. If you aer planning on selling the GTS 240...let me know. I might try SLI dual on it. However, for the cost of replacing the motherboard and power for that, I might as well just get a GTX 295 and a PSU. If you're tinkering with this Dell setup, you MUST get a new PSU. Also, if you want dual SLI, the motherboards needs to be upgraded as well. And maybe a custom drilled out vent on the side of this case with an extra fan might help too....:P

Yup, you're right...could have made my own. But pricing this Dell setup vs NewEgg or the other premium pre builts was the cheapest. Only $1050! Plus, I got financing with interest free. So, there were other reasons. Anyway, it is a great start for future builds. Just wanted to point out that this particular Dell setup didn't support SLI, and that the PSU rating was very low (good for efficency). The GTS240 setup is hence perfect (and energy efficient) for this setup.
