Yeah Im pretty bad at pc's but Im learning SO like... I got a duelcore pc before i just had a normal pentium 4.. So now its a duel core 2.55gzh does that mean i have 2.55gzh x 2? which is 5.1? or just 2.55gzh Im kinda confused so yeah :P

No, the two clock speeds do not add up. It is like having two individual cpus, each with there own clockspeed.
lol. umm it is a lot more complicated then that. You can only compare clockspeeds of chips using the same design. The pentium 4 chip was a very ineffiecient design, while the core 2 duo is much more effiecient. Your pentium 4 is aprox. equivelent to a single core of a core 2duo clocked at about 1.6Ghz. Having multiple cores does two things. If an application is programed to take advantage of multiple cores it will run up to 2 times faster then it would with a single core. Multiple cores also allows you to multitask beter since one application thread can be handled by one core leaving the other core to handle another thread. So doen't worry your new dual core is much faster. If you have anymore questions feal free to ask.
No, no, no. Dual core is much better than single core. It's hard to explain, but think of it this way: two heads are better than one. It's difficult to understand. But dual core is better than single core because many applications and programs out there have multicore support and so run much faster and more efficiently. Having a 2 ghz dual core CPU is much better than a 3 ghz single core CPU.
EDIT: By the way, simply using clockspeeds (ghz) is no longer an effective way of determining the speed of a processor. There are many variables to consider other than the clockspeed. 10 years ago it was pretty much only the clockspeed that matter; the more mhz, the faster. Now, things are different.

and btw I got 300$ is that good enof for a video card or should I spend more and which ones do you guys suggest I have a few games but its kinda laggy when i play them on high settings I play crysis and battlefield 2 and 2142 so yeah Post your links down in this post
The funny thing about dual core CPUs are people are finally starting to develop for them, and what do they do? They unleash quad cores to the masses! It is freaking funny!

it's not that complicated... you should read up on processor architectures regarding logical cores and clocks[QUOTE="cyborg9"][QUOTE="PEELEDbanana"]

it's not that complicated... you should read up on processor architectures regarding logical cores and clocksYeah once you start looking up stuff on processors, you will figure stuff out and then it becomes easy. BTW if you don't want to spend that entire $300 on a videocard or you think your power supply is insufficient, the radeon 4850 is really cheap right now, I just saw a couple in the $100 range. This card will easily provide you with enough power for most new games. Also as stated before, if you have an hp, dell, or someother oem special, make sure that you have a pci express slot.

there is a powercolor 4850 for 99$ on newegg, wold be advisable to put ramsinks on it though...Please Log In to post.
