I read somewhere in gamespy that supposedly, Gearbox software is taking over what's left of DNF and pushing for a release. Apparently it was THIS CLOSE to completion before the plug was pulled.
Don't let me down, Gearbox. I still believe.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Indeed, don't get your hopes up... The leaked gameplay videos are made of repetitions of about 4 different sceneries and enemies so if it's "close to completion" this will be the FPS with the smallest map in history :P
And who's to say that a game that has been in development for so long will actually bring something interesting compared to today's shooters?
If this rumour is true and Gearbox is making the game, then maybe what you say will be true :P If 3DRealms are going to attempt to make the game again (Which is highly unlikely since 2K still own the publishing rights and the entire DNF team is still fired- or hired by other companies-.) then we'll never get a chance to play it.The game will be completed and will be awesome.

My grandchildren will have to suffer through threads like this....
"DNF now slated for a June 2112 release!"
Well that and after all this wait if it isn't one of the best games ever made it will just get trashed in reviews. People would expect way to much from it.I have no hope. Even if they do succed in reviveing it, they have lost so much money there's no way it can make profit.

Lawsuit is settled and gearbox is taking the lead.dakan45Lawsuit is settled, yes, but the Gearbox thing is STILL just a rumour.
Who cares if they don't make a profit? Thats not really our concern. Besides, if they release it they will make some of their money back, which is better than a complete loss.I have no hope. Even if they do succed in reviveing it, they have lost so much money there's no way it can make profit.

I remember that apart duke nukem forever, there was also another game being developed by 3D Realms. It was Earth No More... any news about it guys?060390Earth No More was never being developed by 3D Realms. It WAS being "Produced" by them, which in the gaming world actually means next to nothing. Since they don't make the game, and they don't publish it, they just give tips here and there. But 3DRealms was forced to pull out of it because they have no money. It was then continued by the developer (Recoil Games) under the funding of Radar Group, before they both ran out of money too. Now the game has been indefinitely postponed. I kinda hope this Gearbox rumour is true, although I would personally like to see 3DRealms take another stab at the game, go COMPLETELY bankrupt and then fall apart never to be seen again. Then they can't attempt to scam publishers for money anymore.
Oh my goodness, why do we even care. Its not like in this generation any Duke Nukem game has been anything better than mediocre. I think Duke Nukem's future is an Uwe Boll movie.
No, it doesn't stand a chance. I don't think I ever believed in Duke Nukem, and certainly from 2004 onward, when the game had already been in development for over six years, alarm bells should have been raised. It would not be in Gearbox's interest to develop such a highly contested title. Best to leave it alone and do Borderlands 2. I wish someone would just say "There, we've cancelled the game!" and then we could breath a sigh of relief.
Oops. Had to reread the news story and it referenced the lawsuit in past tense. My bad. Anyway, I have no hopes for a new Duke Nukem. Well, a new Duke Nukem that's any good at least. I have low expectations for remakes and new sequels to old games these days. Seeing how 2K has jacked up X-COM, I won't be surprised to see them do the same to poor old Duke. What lawsuit? It was dropped two months ago and they can't file another one with the same claims.
The game will be completed and will be awesome.

Well, they can't officially can it, because that would break their Publishing deal with 2K, and they would need to pay back all the money that 2K gave them, which they just don't have anymore. They did however fire the entire DNF team and put the game on hold, which was their attempt to get around their publishing deal, but just resulted in 2K suing them. No, it doesn't stand a chance. I find it hilarious that this game is still being talked about after all these years. I was super stoked when they announced it back in I think 1997 PC Gamer issue when I was 10. Now I'm just about done with college and the game still isn't any closer to being finished. :lol:I honestly wonder how long they can prolong this joke for?

lol ditto
I played Duke Nukem 3D when it first came out on PC. I was around 11-12 at the time I believe when it came out, something like that. The reason I am not interested anymore is because its been far to long since it was first announced. I won't get hyped for a game that I still doubt will ever actually come out. I tried replaying Duke Nukem 3D recently and it just was not the same as its been to long.We care because it's the Duke!
If you are too young to remember the awesomeness that is Duke Nukem 3D, then that's pretty understandable.

For each person who got tired of waiting for the next Duke, there are people like me who decided to be patient and look forward to whenever the next game came out. Right now it looks very solidly like it will be released in 2011 and if I have the money it will be a day-1 purchase for me.We care because it's the Duke!

Just had enjoyed it so much when I was a younger I expected to like it as much as I used to so I was disappointed. Not a biggie though :)[QUOTE="testfactor888"][QUOTE="kimkim01"]
