My computer has gathered up an insane amount of dust. And i think its effecting my game performance.

Now does dust in your computer effect computer performance? I'm pretty sure it does but I just want to know. I would clean it now but the thing was built by my local computer store so If I open it up then I would lose the warrenty on it.

Iftakeing off your case door you loseyour warranty your computer shop fails. Well anyway dust can kill your computer but if you want to get rid of it just get some compressed air and blow it out.

Good to give it a clean. Dust can cause fans to not pull and push air freely throughout the PC, thus making it hotter. Heat can cause unexpected weirdness happening with the PC.
Taking the case off to clean it and voiding warranty is utter crap. My technician at my work tells people that they'll void warranty which is so funny. I keep telling him not to say that. Warranty is only void if you open it, install RAM or another device the wrong way, and damage the original components.

How would they know if you opened the case? Did they put a sticker or something over one of the edges? If so, buy a can of compressed air, go down to your local shop, and make them blow it out for you. Otherwise, open that sucker up and use some compressed air to clean out any and all fans, heatsinks, and drives with blasts of air. - Dust can affect your performance easily because it makes your system hotter. More heat means lower stability, lower performance, and the possibility of safety features like thermal throttling kicking in.

Dust is not only impedes your performance, it makes your system hotter and can drastically reduce the life of your components. Dust kills computers.

I dont think it directly hurts performance, but it does lower you PC components life as well as heat up you PC if enough dust collects. Anyways back to the original post, maybe call them and ask to see what they want you to do. If they charge you for the compressed air. Fine but that is as high as i am willing to go, if they charge you for the service then forget it and say i will do it myself. I highly doubt they will say it voids the warrenty to open the computer case just to dust it. I think they mean don't add comonents or other hardware becasue you could damage it.

Dust hurts performance by slowing the fans down thus less air is cooling the PC, this increases temps>decreases lifespan of components. It also builds up heat in the case since it sorta acts like the insulation in houses. It's good to clean your PC every 3-6 months depending on the environment it's being used in.

Actually, both ATI and nVidia have thermal throttling mechanisms that will cut the core speed of their GPUs, and every CPU for the past few years has a type of throttling mechanism as well. Too much heat can mean random shutdowns (CPU cutting off system due to overheating) as well as reduced videocard performance.
