i am wondering what is the difference about the DVD burner that has a SATA plug or IDE plug? will there be a faster read and burn speed? if so then ill get a SATA DVD drive because right now i have a IDE DVD drive but i have 5 SATA slots open on my mobo. plus the IDE cord is so big that it is blocking air flow to get into my case properly

Personally i have found if im burning 2 simultaneous DVDs both on SATA the buffer handles it pretty well,

But if i try SATA & IDE or IDE & IDE the buffer does tend to struggle / bottom out, giving me the odd coaster.

Being that all new motherboards I've noticed, only come with a single IDE slot (leaving room for only two IDE devices, instead of 4)... It's best to change over to SATA while you can, before you find yourself in the delima of wanting to keep two IDE HDD's after a motherboard upgrade, and have that brand new IDE DVD, burner, too. In such an instance, you'll have to dump one of the three.
