hei all... i got this problem with my DVD drive.

heres the story.

When i first got my computer (about 4 years ago) it could write on anything...

Cd +/- R/RW
DVD +/- R/RW

But now... it can only write -R and -RW...

and that pisses me off... i just bought 10 Double LayerDVD+R's

and this is my question.

Why can't i burn on DVD/CD +'s??

i could for years ago.. but i can't now??

i big brother got the same Drive on hes little tiny Laptop...
and it can freakin burn the disc's!

Plzz help?

What software are you using to burn?

What has changed since you last were able to burn everything?

Did you upgrade to Vista from XP? Did you change your burning software?

The drive has probably gone faulty. It's common with drives that become faulty that they only record a few types. Sometimes a DVD Burner will only burn CDs and not DVDs. Best bet to make sure.... exchange the drive with ur brother's and test it...just to make sure it's not a software issue

this, I had one go faulty, it could still install windows, but it couldn't do much else. When the something happens to the laser, different systems are effected. Get a new drive.

I disagree, faulty drives produce errors, or don't burn at all, not limit what you can burn.

Pour some alcohol on the dvd and light it up ... on topic : Have you checked the drivers , that the cables are fully plugged in . Have you checked with the companies support?

False... I work at a computer shop and have had faulty drives which read not burn, or burn only specific formats and not others.
