Hey. I just upgraded the firmware for my LG GSA-H22L DVD burner to version 1.02, and now it won't read/write DVDs, only CDs. I followed the instructions in the 'Read Me' file when I flashed, but it won't work for DVDs. I even managed to flash with the H22N firmware(same burner, but without lightscribe) to see if that would get it working, but it didn't. Then I went back to the H22L firmware still with no luck.

Was wondering if anyone had an issue like this that they were able to figure out. Thanks.

I think you might be SOL. I don't recall exactly, but if I'm remember right....once you flash new firmware and it doesn't work right or you have issues, you're screwed. You need to get a new DVD drive. I could be remember wrong, but that's what I recall. My little brother tried flashing the firmware for his DVD drive because when he got a new hard drive and OS (virus killed his last hard drive and he couldn't find his copy of XP - parents spent $200 or so on Vista 64 Home Premium) installed, Vista wouldn't recognize his DVD drive. We searched online and found that his DVD drive had compatibility issues with Vista and a firmware flash is required to fix the problem....though not everyone had success with it. We flashed and nothing changed - we pitched the DVD drive because I couldn't get it to work on my computer (I had XP at the time) and bought him a brand new one.

I'm totally prepaired for that (they're only about $25.00 on zzf anyway). I was actually able to 'revive' an older drive once after a bad FW update by finding a workaround to re-flash it with a newer fw... so I just figured someone might have a trick for this

Unless you can find a workaround for your drive (very important) you are screwed and have to go and spend $25 to get a new one. If there is a workaround turn to the manufacturer or the many tech forums on the net.

Why would he be SOL? Just E-mail tech support, I'm sure they can find you a working firmware.

I did email them... but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I'll wait another couple days and then just buy a new one if I don't get an answer. Thanks
