I just built my computer three days ago and I updated the DVD drive firmware and now it ceases to operate...

WHY???!!! what can I do to bring it back?! It can still openan closed and all the proper LED's appear...but it wont read...

also, another question; what order do you keep your boot device order in{BIOS}?

This is my Drive.

What problem were you trying to solve by updating the firmware?

I had similar problems, this is how I fixed it, to solve the issue, you have to edit the Windows Registry: Click Start, then Run, type REGEDIT and click OK. Locate and then remove the following registry values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\LowerFilters HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\UpperFilters Close Registry Editor. Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.

Hmm, Are you sure you have looked correctly, if yes then I'm afraid there is nothing else I can do, I'm not greatly experienced with DVD drives.

Not likely since the firmware is now on the dvd drive. If it were just a windows problem, you could easily fix it by deleting the driver from your windows device manager. If that doesn't work, you might try changing the driver letter in Computer Management, and if that doesn't work I'd try putting the old firmware back on it if you can. It's usually a good idea to not touch the firmware on hardware unless there is a specific problem that you are having that it fixes or there is a feature that it adds that's good enough to risk bricking the hardware. Lots of things can go wrong in a firmware transfer from power outage causing data loss to data corruption in the initial transfer.
