I am trying to extend my desktop to my tv...which is across the room. So I opted for the use of the HDMI output on my EVGA GTX 460 so i wouldnt have to run an extra audio cable as well. I tried this and am getting nothing on my TV screen. In the control panel, the display isnt showing up. Just so I dont miss the obvious. Is it possible to have HDMI output as a secondary display while still having DVI port 1 for my monitor. If so. Any guesses on what I'm Missing?

also, I know the HDMI port works. Used it for my monitor for awhile just to test it out....switched back to DVI...better picture it seemed.

Yes, it's possible. I have that exact setup right now. Just plug the HDMI cable in, and it should list your TV as an available monitor. It allows me to clone, extend, and use the TV as my primary display.

just like any other cables, yah length can be an issue. short cables are ok but long cables can suffer from signal degradation as the signal travel down a wire even further. u can buy a signal booster or invest on very high quality cables (monster cables)

thanks for the advice. I THOUGHT i was getting good cables. I work at best buy and get our Rocketfish brand really cheap. but they look and feel solid. also I'm having to use the "out-of-the-box" mini HDMI to regular HDMI cable from my GPU, then an HDMI coupler to connect to the larger rocketfish cable to make it to my tv (all this run under the house.) im guessing the coupler doesnt help anything.

I'm using the mini HDMI to HDMI adapter that came with my graphics card, then I use a HDMI to HDMI cable I bought off eBay for $27 to connect the card to my Panasonic TV, which it detects and transfers audio just fine. It's a 40 foot cable. The first one had all these pixels or something that always flickered in the background, I had another cable sent to me and everything works just fine now. * Knocks on wood * ..

so i spent most of the day looking at signal boosters and reading about them and when you need them. Thought I needed one but they say that they are rarely needed for HDMI runs less than 50 feet which im WAY below. Also, it says that a signal booster would be needed if the picture wasnt there at all or is pixelated which wasnt happening for me. So i continued with my troubleshooting. I am currently using a Rocketfish 4-way HDMI switcher because my tv only has 1 hdmi input. I bypassed this just to try and everything worked fine! which is awesome...but I still want to have an HDMI switcher. So I guess I need to front the extra money for a nicer switcher and try that. thanks for all the info though.

Figures: It would be an issue on Rocketfish end.

ok....so unfortuantely...the issue is not resolved. after too much time working...i got to use my "fixed" set-up again. Before. Since I had little time to test it, I called it fixed because the video no longer cut in and out like before. (So on that note the Rocketfish switcher still sucked.) the video remains constant and looks amazing, BUT the audio is cutting in and out now.

I spent a few hours looking through forums and EVGA and Nvidia help chats and noone seems to have the problem with the switcher....probably because most people don't need to use them, BUT i did find many people had the same issue when having the HDMI hooked up to run through a receiver, which is KINDa like a switcher in a sense.

Many people experienced the same audio cut out and noone yet has seemed to fix the problem who has MY GPU.

So again. Im open to ideas. it still baffles me that it works fine without the switcher or receiver. Something about the receiver and/or switcher messes things up.

I thought i needed a signal booster. tried that. same issue.

I would REALLY like to use my switcher if possible. It appears that nvidia has to do some Driver updates from what I read.

ANY NEW INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

thanks so far

one more thing I forgot to add. I got consistent video ONLY AFTER purchasing a monster Mini HDMI to FEMALE HDMI adapter. Using the stock GTX 460 mini HDMI to HDMI cable with a coupler did NOT provide consistent video for my case. And after discussing my issue with co-workers, they also said to avoid ANY sort of Coupler if possible. Im also open to trying yet another brand/model of HDMI switcher if someone has proven succes with it. Currently I have a Monoprice 4x1 HDMI switcher that I got for $25. works better than my rocketfish one by far. I purchased it because it had an equalizer, which from my gathering, helps strengthen the signal before outputting. This could be why it works better, but im open to spending more for something that will finally put this issue to rest.

sorry for all the posts but it should be noted that I have yet to try another cable from my pc to tv. Trying to avoid this as it can be expensive. and again. since it works fine without the switcher. I figured it wasnt the problem.
