I know alot of people who have vista and they have alot of problems with it. So I just wanna know if it's worth getting vista to have DX10, or would it be better to wait for a service pack?
Opinions?

Its not worth it. The current DX10 cards will be useless when dx10.1 lauches and besides it sucks.

Not true.
It will be worth it when more games take advantage of DX10. Right now Crysis does that, but one game is hardly worth the update, unless you're planning on playing that game the next 3-4 months or something.
I own Vista 64 bit, and it has never been unstabile, crashed or anything of the like.
My only complaint is that vista does eat up some ram, but to me it seems that everyone have forgotten how XP was at the beginning (I remember the moaning fest when that came out)
I do see a trend where people wail on Vista without any real reason, or simply doessnt know how to use Vista properly. Most of what I heard before I bought it (together with a new pc) was unfounded, most by people who only tryied the beta or never touched it alltogether.
I would say that if you have less then 2 GB of Ram, you shouldnt touch Vista at all, (even 2 GB might be a bit low) if you have above, I couldnt see why you shouldnt.
It would be a shame if you had that nice dx10 card, and not be able to use its functions, and I fardly think that xp could handle dx10 nomatter what any commonman would say (when you see the dx10 is built up completely different then earlier dx versions, and there is some (not all) things that XP would Never be able to do, unless you rewrote XP completely, and if that is the case, you would choose a hybrid between XP and Vista, which I doubt would be very stabile.

While current DX 10 cards won't be able to use the minor features added in 10.1... they will have no problems with any dx 10 or 10.1 games.

lol, eat your words.
DX10.1 is only for minimal added features, such as free AA.
Vista is a better OS than XP in every possible way except for drivers and unecessary services and processes that you can remove anyways.
I'm awaiting your response.
On a related sidenote, is it possible to play Crysis on Vista in DX9 mode? If DX10 doesn't offer a big enough difference at a big sacrifice in performance, I think I'd rather do DX9.QixoteYes, you can.
have not had any problems with it - but as far as improved graphics is concerned, the first game that you are really going to be able to tell is difference is Crysis.

Hmm, sure about that?

I take my previous statement back, there is no reason to upgrade to Vista yet. Well, there is one, it's nice to look at, but your in-game visuals will not get any significant boost if you upgrade. I guess I'm going to wait longer.

Please just stop right now. There is clearly a diffference between DX10 vs DX9. You won't notice them by looking at a picture. I mean the shadows are a big difference.
Couldnt pay me to go back to XP. Vista features and performance is great and it's tiring to hear bashers that have no clue what their talking about.
Edit: Just wanted to add that it seems as if every Vista update it just gets faster and more stable.

It's nice that you like Vista and all, I'd probably like it too if I bought a copy of it. I simply stated that there is no feature in DX10 right now that's worth shelling out this much money for. If you are getting Vista for other reasons than games, be my guest. If you are getting Vista for Crysis (arguably the only game worth the upgrade) just to get a couple of shadows here and there, then you do not make economical sence. That's what I'm trying to tell TC. Wait until more games actually utilize some of the advantages in Vista in a significant way. I'm not a hater, BTW, I'd like to have Vista, but I ordered a new TV, so my priorities go towards that purchase (which will actually give me a significant upgrade on visuals when it comes to movies, games on PC and console), as should TC's. He's better off buying something he actually needs.
Dude the only people having problems with Vista are the ones installing non compatible codecs and other non Vista compatible apps that don't belong.Get Vista, don't be left with the anti-Microsoft goons that just wanna bash Microsoft because they are just that damn good at what they do. I admit Microsoft has made dumb mistakes and continue to do so as I type this but Vista really isn't that bad. Most people that refuse to buy Vista are just bashing it because they probably can't afford it also. I say get Vista, I've been using Vista since the pre-beta stages and let me tell you that it's come a very long way compared to what it used to be. Don't be left in the last gen days..make the jump to Vista to enjoy the DX10 games before we move on to the next best thing. Let those anti-Vista mongers enjoy their XP with DX9 support while us DX 10 users reep the benefits of moving forward with technology!I know alot of people who have vista and they have alot of problems with it. Maybe I didnt make my self completely clear. What i ment is that it would support some features of dx10.1 which is an update to dx10. Of course it will still play those games... Its not like a completely new dx, that would be insane.
And when i said dx10 sucks I meant it. It only lowers your performance and does nothing that cannot be done on xp. Crysis for an example. You need vista to turn on very high settings but simply editing a game file a little bit than can be done on xp too. How pathetic is that?
